Due to some damage to the center of the retina in my right eye several years ago I have become right eye dominant after 60 plus year. I have been able to teach myself to shoot a rifle left handed and on the way I have also learned to shoot pistol with either or both hands ans shotgun from either side also.

Just a quick question: I shoot a rifle left handed ever since the Marine Corps in the '60s and a pistol right handed. I am left eye dominant. Is this bass ackwards?

Sound about right to me but you should be able to do the pistol with either hand with no problem

I was just curious because you said you learned to shoot the rifle left handed now. I just thought that it was always that way for me with the rifle and now that you use your right eye, wouldn't that be better for a righty? My pistol skills a far better with my right hand, BTW. When I was still the police they made us qualify using "strong hand, weak hand" and my aim was waaay better righty. Didn't mean to highjack the thread, I'll start my own for further.

Devildawg, you misunderstand something along the line. I have been right handed and right eye dominant all of my life, until the retina damage about 8 years ago or so, don't really know when my eye dominance change. I knew I was having some problem with my right eye as sometimes objects were distorted. While doing my qualifications for my CPL, I notice I was left eye dominant after 70 years of right eye dominance. I normally shoot with both eyes open, so I never noticed until then that the pistol was in front of my left eye. I had sold my 10/22 because I could not get a view through the scope because the center of vision is blurred just like a dark water spot. A few years ago at the range I shoot a friends 10/22 left handed and was able to hit the target. Since then I have learned to do much better. Was pretty awkward switching sides after over 70 years but I am no longer like a cub bear with boxing gloves on. Initially I was so awkward I was bordering on being unsafe unless alone. Learning trigger control for the left hand and gun handling was extremely difficult at first but much better one. Shotgunning is no real proble because it is a pointing and not aiming game and I do not see the sights or the barrel just the target.

Well I did get my VQ trigger assembly and installed it. It Rocks. I now have everything VQ'd except a high quality rear sight. I have tightened up my group noticeably. I am really enjoying shooting and being fairly good at it.

Who said retirement was going to be boring?

You said it. I shoot more than once a week now. I really like the 22/45 feel. A range master let me shoot his competition Buckmaster and I'm looking into getting of those too (not instead)

Yes they do, handguns or long guns, have several of each and the bigger shooters too, and shotguns too.

Damn Right Bullseye and that is the way it should be. Money can prejudice a lot of TRUTHFULNESS. Sometimes the cheapest place is not always the best, I do most of my gun business from gunsmith a few years younger than myself. Have dealt with him on firearms for over 50 years and his son, since he has joined the business. They my not always be the cheapest but they are close enough to keep my business, because when I have a problem and talk to them, it's either "Hey Len, let me have a look at that or leave it an I'll take a look at it and call, and usually the next day and NO CHARGE. You do not alienate real friends for a few dollars.
