Not very common of a failure. I'll guess that Ruger concluded this was an owner induced failure and that they were not responsible for repairs. The time delay may have been due to shop backlog and someone higher up in management having to render a decision on who bears the burden of the repair costs. I have to say this is just one of only a few incidents I've heard of where the customer came out on the short end with them. Generally, they've gone out of their way to fix a firearm for a customer. Could be a factor of these tougher times for corporations and possibly a inclination of what's ahead for firearms producers from the incoming legislative administration.

Half the retail price sounds a lot to me like full price for the receiver alone.

I'll be interested to hear how that new receiver works out for you.

I betcha this wouldn't have happened if Bill Ruger was still alive. This kind of stuff really makes me mad. I had a hard time buying a Ruger in the first place because of their policy of not selling high caps and Folding stocks on the Mini-14's.

That's not a Ruger Factory Folder (try and buy one without dept. letterhead) and the Ruger Factory High Caps don't malfunction, as a rule.
Ruger just recently started selling their High Cap Mags for the Mini-14 on a very limited basis.
Bill Ruger said, "no honest man needs more than 10 shots". I had a problem with that and haven't bought a Ruger since '88. I finally broke down and bought a MkIII with a Tac Sol Threaded Receiver because I needed a suppressor host. I guess no honest man needs a suppressor either. I respect Bill Ruger's firearm designs (along with Sturm who co-designed the MkI Pistol and promptly passed away).
I don't want get in a pissing match here. I'm just stateing the facts.

Out of curiosity is this kind of damage more common amongst .22s as they are made of softer steels?
