Mark lll 22/45 and cannot for the life of me get it to dry fire.
Cocked the bolt back and released it with the mag in. Sometimes the trigger will click but most of the times it wont. Feel so stupid on such a simple thing but the gun is a little tricker than I thought

Do you have any aftermarket parts in your 22/45?

Try turning the pistol upside down and squeezing the trigger again. If it engages and the hammer drops, then you may have left out the trigger return spring or plunger. Those are the parts that push up the disconnector and engage the sear.

When you say sometimes the trigger will click, do you mean the hammer is actually dropping? Or is the hammer staying put and just the trigger is making a click sound?

I have all original parts-
The hammer is staying put and it feels like a 1/2 click. The few times that the trigger did click I was able to easily remove the mainsping assbly.

Well if you can remove the mainspring assembly then the hammer is in the forward position. Is there pressure on the bolt when you pull it rearwards? If yes, does that pressure release when the hammer is cocked?

yes there is a lot of pressure on the bolt on pull back, It then locks at full back and I push up th bolt lock button.

Does that pressure stay or when the hammer is cocked does the bolt pressure get lighter?

the pressure is hard pull all the way back to lock. Is mag supposed to be in or out? and safety on?

Ok. Take the magazine out, then pull the bolt back and let it close. Pull the bolt back again and let it close - is the pressure on the bolt the second time lighter or the same?

the pressure is the same on each pull back. I then hit the back of the bolt with my palm to close it. then put in mag and got a very small click from the trigger

All right, if the pressure is the same then that tells me that the hammer is not cocking. Something is not assembled correctly. Take your pistol back down by field stripping and double check your installation. How far did you tear down the pistol? Was it a field strip or a detailed strip?

I just field stripped it. When I pull the bolt back and lock it and then point it in a dowward direction it closes.

Pull it apart again and double check your installation, especially the position of the hammer pivot pin and the hammer. You do not have something installed correctly but based on your description I haven't determined what that part is.

Thanks for your help-I took it apart again and the hammer wasn't fully forward prior to replacing the mainspring assembly. Bee n fighting this for 2 days but got it.

Sounds like maybe the hammer strut was off of the mainspring cap, thus not allowing the hammer to cock properly.

Sometimes going back and starting over is the way to find that little glitch.

It's working perfectly now-what happened was that when I was moving the hammer full forward (upside down) I didn't have the mag inserted and what I thought was full forward wasn't.
My hands are so sore from pulling that bolt back that I'm n ot going to touch the gun for a week. Thanks again for making me look a little deeper.
