Should firing pin stop be visible on the bottom of the bolt

Post by JLSouth » Thu May 15, 2008 8:16 pm

I recently purchased a used MK II from a local gun shop. I've had a chance to shoot about 100 rounds through it so far, and I like it. I had what I would consider decent grouping at 15 yards, and I think that speaks for the gun more then myself since I haven't done a lot of shooting... yet.

I was able to field strip it and get it back together without any problems. However, I noticed that the firing pin stop was visible in one of the grooves on the bottom of the bolt. Is this normal, or has the bolt really worn through? It's a target model that shipped in 1984 according to Ruger, so it is quite possible to have had many rounds fired through it.

that is normal. if i remember correctly (i don't have it in front of me), if the bolt is in front of you, upside down, with the bolt face forward, the visible part of the stop pin is on your right.

That's normal in the left hand slot. You can see the pin but that is not wear. There's nothing to worry about.

Thanks. I was going to be impressed if the previous owner managed to wear out the bolt like that.
