Peripheral Vision and a Bit of Excitement

Saw something move in my periphery at the range today. Had the presence of mind to look left in time to catch a guy leaving the line and walking toward the targets. He was 15-20 feet from lanes with very active firing. I doubt that anyone shooting would have thrown a round that far left, but....

A little earlier we had been swapping war stories and I mentioned that you never hear a deep and manly "cease fire" when something happens, its always a high pitch with a rapid "cease fire, cease fire, cease fire." When I saw it, they got my best tenor voice with three rapid "cease fires."

They guy did not seem too concerned. Guess it pays to pay a bit less attention to the target.

You did not mention anything about his enormous gratitude to you
for halting the range-fire...
He should be permanently banned from the(any?) range.

Had he walked down the line with a loaded firearm,
he'd likely be banned... this is no less careless behavior.

This range is at a shooting club and is largely self-policed. I think the guy was a guest and his host left him unattended, which is against the range rules. I was just lucky to have noticed something in the periphery.

Guess that would get me thrown out of most any place as I normally carry at least one loaded firearm and usually two. Or are concealed carry guns all right?.

The basis if my comment was that the 'guy' was not competent to
handle firearms and should not be trusted with them... ever.
The "risk" is too great and the damage (when done) is tragic.
As to "Concealed" on the range... Concealed is Concealed...
Just keep THAT firearm(s) as "Concealed" for that purpose.
Your 'range firearms' are to be treated with the rules of the range
and basic safe respect for the property and other shooters.

The 'host' had a responsibility and "let it slip..."
but the 'guy' is an idiot and comes-in under-par for the range.
When someone does not grasp the basics, they should not be given
an opportunity to endanger others...
now, if we could just make that rule apply to Politicians !!

TRex, common sense tells you not to walk down the range when someone is shootin, but I believe COMMON SENSE is not as common as we believe it should be. Yes and mine are concealed all the time as required by the State of Michigan laws.
Just trying to get your attention today my friend. Have seen those type at the range more than once, that is why until it closed I used a indoor range with computer controlled targets so that I did not have to worry about idiots walking down range in front of me.

Don't know if I'd ban the guy to the outer darkness for that mistake, although I'd strongly consider it if he did something else. We did some chewing on his host because one of the rules is that you cannot leave a guest unattended and that happened.

I just had the lesson of pay attention to what's going on around you in situations like this reinforced. I was responsible for military small arms and artillery firing off and on for about 25 years. I've seen people who should know better do some really dumb things. The scariest folks were usually senior filed grades. I'm willing the give the new shooter a break.

(I said that once about senior field grades and my S3 reminded me I was the senior field grade. )

I'll go along with that, whatever pleases me counts the most.
You better get to work so you can get the money in the pot for my next month SS deposit. I depend on you younger guys to keep that pot filled. Man the new Blackhawk sure is a sweet shooter with .38 Specials, see no reason to shoot.357's the will not make any better holes in the paper but they make make the plates ring a little better.

The Black Hawk is a nice shooting revolver. Doesn't seem to have as much recoil with .357 as my GP100. Almost all of my shooting has been with .38 special. As you said, the hole looks to be about the same size in the paper.

Good shooting and watch out for the other guy because sometimes he isn't watching out for himself.

Damn, I sure would like to get a video of that. Bullseye, older guys like you and I were brough t up to be nice, until it was time not to be nice, remember Patrick Swayze on Roadhouse?
Never try to fight with an old guy as he will most likely just shoot you because he is too old for the physical type of violence.
