That's unfortunate for you but at least you're getting a replacement. There's many factors in failures to extract and reducing them down to a single root cause can be somewhat exhausting. In the past I've had to use some radical methods to solve failures like this with some Rugers, like recutting a chamber and polishing the inside of the receiver tube to reduce excess friction. Hard to say what was causing your problem even the LCI is suspect in cases like this one. Hopefully your new pistol will bring you enjoyment instead of grief.

Even removed the LCI and that didn't fix it.

Well if you did all the usual fixes, magazine lips, Ejector pin anchor point solid, verified no excess drag on the recoil spring guide, replaced the extractor with a VQ, and removed the LCI, then the chamber or the receiver tube would be my next suspected areas. A 1" dia felt polishing wheel and some rubbing compound works great with a variable speed grinding tool with a flexible shaft extension. The only area to be cautious is where the ejector is mounted as it will grab the buffer wheel if it comes in contact. A little bit of polishing goes a long way here.

Some of those fixes, I wouldnt feel comfortable doing. I'll leave those to a gun smith. I think Ruger needs to get back to their old quality standards.
By the way, I really like your site here and the information you are willing to share.

I understand your reluctance I would feel the same way too if I wasn't a gunsmith. Not all Ruger's have ejection problems. You just happened to get one that does. Did Ruger say anything as to what they did to repair it?

Nothing in detail.
+Barrel/receiver Assembly-Repaired(2x)
+LCI-Repaired (2x)
+Ejector-Repaired (1x)
+Extractor-Repaired(2x)
Then they did "sell" me 2 new magazines after I had modified mine.
I was told by the tech at Ruger that they routinely replace the extractor on every gun that comes in.

Those Ruger extractors wear pretty quickly. Which is why the VQ is a good buy, it is made out of tool steel and cut to a little more precise specifications.

I see that they fixed the ejector. I wonder if it was loose on the rivet?

Take the bolt out of your pistol. Hang a live round on the extractor hook. If you can shake it off with moderate shaking your extractor is not holding the case securely.

Is there a gap between the a empty inserted magazine lip and the ejector pin? About 1/16" is all you need.

Received my replacement pistol today. Put about 250 rounds thru it. Four different ammo manufacturers. Only one "stove pipe". Am pleased with the accuracy using open sights at 10 and 25 yards. Cant wait to see how I do when I put a scope on it. My faith in Ruger has been restored.
