Solved-Smith and Wesson 22 revolver (Thanks to Georgezilla)

I've been looking for a 22 revolver for several months now, and happened by a local shop yesterday that has a lot of used guns (consignment and estate sales). They had (past tense because I bought it!) what they called a S&W M&P 22lr for $400.

The old saying if it sounds too good to be true it probably is, but I couldn't see anything wrong with it so I bought it. Story is that the guy who owned it was in jail (didn't ask why) and had several guns on consignment because he needed the money to pay his attorney. I've dealt with this shop before and they are good people who stand behind their guns, have 4 gunsmiths on staff, and generally know what they are doing.

Couple of other guys helped me and thought it was pretty nice as well. But have never heard of an M&P revolver in 22lr. I'm thinking it's a model 18 or Combat Masterpiece but just guessing. Has 4" barrel, adjustable sights. K248***

Sorry can't post a picture but I can't get it here in the People's Republic of California until March 22.

When you open the cylinder are there any markings down on the yoke? The M&P revolvers had no markings. I believe the M&P revolver was only made in .38 special. I have one and it has no markings on the yoke. Starting witht he Model 10, they put the model # on the yoke.

No, no model number on yolk. Newer Smith's put the model number there (my 686 and 28 do), but nothing on this one. I'll give Smith a call tomorrow. I've heard Customer Service will tell you what and when over the phone. Whatever it is, it was too nice to pass up for $400.

In all I can find through Google, with adjustable sights it would be a K-22 Masterpiece, later production Model 17. The Combat Masterpiece had fixed sights. Many S&W revolvers came under the "Military and Police" description.

Unrelated, but also found mention of an M&P .22 pistol coming out, that matches the current M&P 9mm. I didn't know that.

I couldn't find much on the internet either. I called Smith this morning. Since there is no model number in the yolk (he said they started that in 1957) and a 4" barrel, the guy I talked to said it was a pre-18 Combat Masterpiece.

Can't wait to shoot it.

Picked up my .22 revolver this morning. LGS said he had a surprise for me. The box. It's a 4" blue Combat Masterpiece. Inside the box is the original owners manual. Beneath the owners's manual was a receipt for a target trigger ($9.00 including labor) dated September 30, 1957.

If someone could give me a simple tutorial on attaching pictures from photobucket, I put a couple in. I've tried all the types listed on photobucket, but can't seem to get it to work.

May be a problem with your photo bucket account. I just tweaked the [img]...[/img] part of your link and it works. Both of the aforementioned parts of the link must be lowercase (which is all I changed, [img]...[/img]).

This one works for me as well. I have no clue... Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in... If not, I would contact the photobucket tech support, or try a different image hosting site.

In the mean time, I will leave your images up, unless you'd like me to take them down.

I did not change anything in that one. I don't understand how your computer could cause the links to not work, but anything is possible. It may be in administrative setting on your account for the message board, but I doubt it as I don't think Bullseye has ever made it so images need approval.

There are a lot tech-savvy people on this forum, I'm sure they will get you up to speed.

P.S. I edited my post above, not sure if you saw that.

great looking pistol and a great find.

In photobucket I usually doubleclick on the image and then single click on the image code block to copy.

However you get the same if you use the thumbnail.
