Thanks for the article. I've never seen it all condensed so well. Having always been a rimfire fan, even when I had centerfires, I've always appreciated the science behind the bang.

I don't think the firing pin is the problem with my "no bangs", that said I just bought 2 new firing pins from Brownells... In case anyone is interested, here are the overall lenghts: #1. 1.876"(47.14mm), #2. 1.879" (47.74). (looks like the oval slot could be made a tick longer and the nose flatened a bit for a fuller wack on the case?) From what I can see, looks like the BuckMark pin gives a more pronounced both taller and wider indent on the 22 case?... Maybe this is why the wife's gun didn't have the same issues mine did with the same ammo??? Next shoot is the 26th. of December but I don't have my new ammo yet. As a side note... Just bought a CZ Kadet 22. Took it apart to polish a few parts .. They use a rounded firing pin..The pin appers to have a stop built into the firing pin to stop forward progress..Interested how different Manufacturer's solve the same problems??.. I'm not a over-oiler and the bores/feed ramps(polished) are always clean on my guns, they ougtht to work.

Update; shot the DEC. 26th. match with Remmington Thunderbolts x 40 grain lead bullets... For the most part they worked excellent +... had 2 no fires out of 110 plus rounds (good hits, nice indents). After the match, I completely disassembled the pistol.. didn't find any reason for the problems I've had...The firing pin measured 1.874, so that was not a problem as I had thought?? This gun still has the original hammer spring, lots of internal polishing, nice 2# trigger,overtravel screw,etc. just got my 5,000 mini mags today ...we will see if good ammo helps next month?. As a side note: Your able to shot a second gun (22 rifle) for $3,... I thought I was all set; S&W ar22, tasco mulit dot scope, 3 mags, etc. You shoot the normal 5/6 plate set up with a longer 50 yard plate thrown in... Found out I hadn't done my homework... The red dot was mounted too low on the rifle or I needed a longer buttstock than too compensate for this.... Ahh, more parts to buy!!!

Well, have I over done it???. I shoot steel plate competition. Both my 22/45's have internal work done by myself (Brownells springs,-hammer,reduced power,bolt increased power,VQ extractors, etc. trigger stop, sears either polished or VQ). Last Sunday (very cold for AZ.), it took me 10 mags to get threw 5 runs on one stage because of no fires. I even switched back and forth between both guns (same mods and the guns were warm from firing) and still would have no fires. I tried several different brands of ammo that have always worked well and the result was the same... (all feed well, no problems there). These pistols have worked very well in the past, with few misfires no matter what the ammo. I can't see any damage to the firing pins and the unfired rounds have enough "hit" on them that I would think they should have fired BUT...... does anyone have the overall length of the firing pin??? I'm at a loss... To futher complicate things, the wife was shooting a unaltered Buckmark and had only 2 failures to fire for the whole match... we just use bulk pac ammo of various manufacturer's.

I did the same thing and believed it to be poor ammo. TURNED OUT to be OVER OILING. Gun oil is penitrating oil, wipe the guns down and use the same ammo to prove it out.
