Off to Shoot Steel....

Post by Baldy » Sat Nov 06, 2010 9:13 pm

Finally got a chance to go and shoot in a Steel Match tomorrow in the AM. My one daughter called and said she'll pick me up bright and early. I just know this is going to be fun.

Well I made it to a steel match and had a blast. I did have a little trouble as I didn't know that my Quick Shot has two settings for the dot. One large and one small. I get to the box and I can't see the red dot.. They were nice enought to let step out and go to the end of the group. Luck would have it, I brought my other pistol with a TruGol red dot on it and was able to shoot the match with it.

A Big Tip of the Hat to the Titusville Rifle and Pistol Club for putting this on every second Sunday of the month.. :D

Glad you got a chance to finally shoot the steel at Titusville. Oh heck, now I'm a poet.

 A poet... I had a blast and finished 45th out of 67 shooters. I was next to last in my class though. All the .22's start at a low ready where everybody else starts from a surrender position and a hip holster. So we had the jump on them folks.

For me there is nothing as much fun as shooting steel, whether it is my club matches, Steel Challenge, Ruger Rimfire, Palmyra Steel, Palmyra Multi-Gun Rimfire, or anything else I can find within about 3 hours of where I live. If I could move around better I would be shooting USPSA, IDPA, and IPSC also (a little paper is good but steel is better).

I like shooting the steel targets that fall when you hit them. You not only enjoy the metallic sound, but get to watch the steel object play dead.

Back in the day (late '70's early 80's) shooting steel was a handgun silhouette game. 200 meter rams, 150 meter turkeys...

cast bullits in a .30-30 TC contender.....Bang, Clang, gottem.... :D
