Different Attitude

Post by greener » Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:39 am

You know the folks in Alaska have a different attitude about shooting when they post signs saying "No Shooting Within 1/4 mile of the road." Asked my son-in-law about that and he said that he had pulled off a main road for some shooting and the only questions he got was about direction from a guy who wanted to walk his dog. A bit different from the East Coast. Of course, some of the roadway looks like this:

Pretty place. In August. When the temps are in the mid-60's.

The sun stays up kind of long on those August days too.

Sunrise about 6:30, sunset about 9:30. Out for a walk a bit after 10 in the twilight.

I spent a June in Alaska and it was only dark for for about 4 hours. Even then, true darkness was only about three of those hours. Lots of bald eagles around too. They're pretty creepy when they are eyeballing you as you walk by.

And you end up mowing the yard 2:00AM since it's still sun light. Most who I know that live up there use black out drapes so they can sleep.

Thanks for the link, Kaz.

I believe I need more time than I have to visit. We did drive a couple hours to shoot the Barrett and this was short range because of the trees. Too many post card scenes to count, and we just went to Wasilla for this trip.

My daughter keeps telling me that she "always" sees moose and bear. Haven't seen one of either. Haven't seen an eagle, yet either. She also tells me they don't have thunderstorms. I've been rained on three times with loud rumbling noises from the clouds. We've had sunny, tee shirt weather, except for going up in the hills. Been great so far.

Nope, but they did shoot a bear in that area for spilling beer.

That's a shame. He didn't even get to finish his beer.
