My MK II is prone to stovepipes - I recently bought it used. While cleaning it I noticed chattermarks on the bottom of the bolt. Any idea what may have caused this? Would this have anything to do with the stovepiping? Should I try to smooth them out?
Also, could I snip a loop of the recoil spring out to reduce or eliminate stovepipes? I know every gun has different appetites, but I want to shoot the Federal bulk ammo from Walmart.
Thanks

Those are milling marks and are not likely causing your ejection problems. If your ejections look like this...
Then your magazines may be positioned too high or the extractor may be work. See #14 here:

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
The magazines look okay.
I was going to order one of these
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=531196
until I saw they wanted to charge nine bucks for shipping. I checked Ruger and can get the extractor, plunger and spring for $5.75 including shipping.I can even get a new recoil spring assembly for another $3.25

You can order from Ruger or order a VQ Exact Edge extractor ($10.80) from Rimfire Sports and Custom, they have free shipping.

If you haven't replaced an extractor before, look on my detailed stripping page for instructions and photos. It's not a difficult replacement but it can seem like you need three hands at times.

Bullseye,
I really like the demo photos that you post on this forum as well as the current Mk III forum.
http://www.mkiii.org/forum/
These "Clinical" photos really help one to understand just whats going on.
They are a help to me and experience shooter, so they must be and immense
help to those who are newer. Thanks.

PS. The Exact Edge extractor is a fine product, and worth it.

Your welcome. I tried to appeal to people with a broad spectrum of experience through a multimodal learning approach. In short, sometimes pictures are far better than words alone, that's why I went with that presentation style.
