What "aw-shucks" did you do?

So far, the worst I have done is spill a little powder on the floor reloading, loose a tiny safety spring on my Sig Mosquito, and put a scratch the slide of my PT1911. I have been wondering if anybody has the courage to relate their worst "aw-shucks" (sometimes spelled different) to the forum. As I was loading my hand primer with a 100primer box, I wondered if anybody has ever dumped them all over the floor? or whatever you might have done.
So here is a spot to tell your story, small, or large, as it may be.

Well I am sure flinging springs and detents when building AR's can't new to anyone, oh and never to be found again. Or how about the day I flung a 1911 slide across the room during a brain fart. Sure I could go on.

Loading 12 ga shotshells. Picked up a 25# bag of #8.5 shot by the wrong end.

Not even a vacuum cleaner will pick that up....

Believed Jim Rock about .357 magnum loads in a Merrill Sportsman pistol.

Now I have to pull 50 200 gr Hornady jacketed bullets and dump all that 296..

AND 40 years ago put a .38 WC thru a bullseye shaped tapestry on a wall at work (security office lol) at 03:30 (am) practicing... I was sure it was unloaded,,,, Ruger Security Six with target grips tended to hide one hole....

Went thru 3 walls and embedded against a 9 volt battery in a storage room. Got pretty good at drywall repair that nite....

I have a couple of "I knew a guy" stories.

One guy was teaching some new shooters how to load an M1 Garand in a military schoolhouse. But unfortunately he had a live round mixed in with is dummies. Bang! Shot a hole through three classroom walls and into a piece of electronics test equipment. The odd thing was; he had drawn a small target on the white board in the classroom and totally missed it! The good thing was; no one in the other adjacent rooms was injured by this dumb incident. He quietly retired from the military not too long after he paid for the test equipment.

I know another guy who is missing a small chunk of his right ear. He was reloading when a whole tube of primers detonated in his Dillon press. Fortunately he was wearing safety glasses at the time or he probably would have also lost sight in one eye. Some metal from the tube did strike one of the polycarbonate lenses. He had tried to force a primer into a swaged primer pocket and it turned on him.

Wife ask me if a primer would go off if her vaccuum cleaner picked one up. I said nope. Then I was ask what would make the cleaner go bang and smoke when she cleaned under the loading bench.

Those are stories that are scary, and informing. It would be embarrassing to be responsible for either incident. I work in a potentially hazardous situations at work with electricity, and I always try to NEVER assume anything. What scares me the most is my human-ness. We are all prone to mistakes, and really have to be careful. I always wonder about the power of primers exploding. Thanks for the stories.

He was reloading when a whole tube of primers detonated in his Dillon press. He had tried to force a primer into a swaged primer pocket and it turned on him.

This is more common than you would think. More so since the Federal primers are super sensitive.

As far as spilling shot, I don't know how may times that has happen. I had a column of powder come loose from the base. I can tell you the WW Ball powder makes a big mess.

Years ago I had a pawl spring in a stainless Security Six go airborne in a carpeted room. Took three and a half hours to find. I was lucky seeing it, because I then learned it wasn't magnetic enough for the magnet I wasted time using.

I'm also lucky I haven't had any "aw, shucks" in my current 18 month shooting life. I'm sure one will happen eventually, just hopefully nothing major.

looks like you jammed a little battery in there instead of a primer

The last photo indicates that you had a little blow out, rim seperation. The primer being blown back into the FP hole is pretty common. I have notice this on a lot of brass I pick up, anything from 380's to 44's.

You are right, the cylinder would not rotate after the issue. Yes, the primer had extruded into the firing pin hole, but for a reason. There was not any case separation, but the aw-shucks on my behalf caused it.
