Bullseye,

You very well may be correct. I cannot tell.

Well the light strikes started again

After I got this gun back from Ruger for the second time and putting probably 1500 rounds thru it it started to light strike again.

Well I read on a forum that someone had the same trouble and a new mainspring solved his problem.

I switched mainsprings from my Mark 2 and put it in my Mark 3 which is the offending critter and fired about 150 rounds without a hitch.

I have not had a chance to try the mark 2 with the mark 3 mainspring in it yet but hopefully I will get a chance this weekend.

I am not sure what would cause this but it seems to be working for the time being.

1500-2000 rounds is where I detail clean my gun. If you do not clean the breach face and bolt in between detail cleanings, it may be due again. Make sure if you remove the bolt and detail clean it, the FP channel maybe gunked up. Also check for any burrs since this is a stamped part.

After re-reading what Ruger did, I wonder if the strut on the hammer may be too short....

I'll be interested to see how that Mark III mainspring performs in your Mark II. If the other pistol starts experiencing light strikes then you've discovered the culprit. There have been some mainspring housings that have the spring channel pinched or twisted affecting the cap and spring's operation. The newer style mainsprings are sandwiched and riveted together, instead of one milled out part, and can cause binding if there's any tolerance issues.

Well I am happy to report that the switched mainsprings function fine in both guns so far. I have about 200 rounds thru the Mark 3 with the Mark 2 mainspring and about 100 rounds thru the Mark 2 with the Mark 3 mainspring. No malfunctions of any kind. Who would have thunk it.

Happy shooting.

Work them for a while in each gun then try switching the mainsprings back to their original frames. It could be that the Mark III mainspring needed a little breaking in to loosen it up.
