I've been working on ingraining the 1911 motions:
countless dry-fires from the holster with snap-caps
well over 50 draw / target / safety down / shoot drills at the range
slow & deliberate insertion into the holster with the grip interlock NOT depressed and then double checking the safety lever UP and the hammer BACK

Except for that last one, the motions aren't incompatible with a striker-fired safetyless semiauto, some are useless but none are counterproductive or unsafe.
I am, however, eliminating the option of a "safe = down" lever being in muscle memory ... which I think I'll get over somehow.

I know it seems impossible to have a firing malfunction without an intention to shoot, but I am not totally convinced. If I were going into a "bad area" I will chamber a round for safety, but other then that, I'll take my chances.
(1)

Old Haka can draw/chamber/fire a round pretty quickly, about as fast as if one were in the chamber.

I have lived several decades now without ever needing my hg for self defense. I may need one today? Maybe tomorrow? Who knows?

-1- so you don't have it in muscle memory, with two methods ... being to operate the pistol as automatically as you operate your car means carrying it the same way every time
-2- that's a nice HANDSGUN you have there
-3- that's sort of the point, if I knew when I would need it, I would just not go there ... and I surely wouldn't go there alone with only 7+1 (or 6+1 in the PPS)

I totally agree eventhough I sometimes say some hairtrigger, billy the kid crap. Safty should always be first. You are'nt gonna worry about others getting you if you get yourself and most of your safty is knowing your gun, what makes it tick and what makes it bang.

Myself, I prefer not to go to the bad part of town if possible, but then, they come to the better part of town, because that is where the good stuff is. I have carried a spare with air in it in my vehicle for years and never needed it to use it in so long I can not remember, maybe I should leave it in the garage and only take it if I plan on using it. Yes the Israeli carry can be loaded quickly and IO can do it easily, BUT, what if the other hand is occupied fending off an attacker or getting the sweet wife out of harms way? Just some thoughts to ponder.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

I guess some points I intended to make are:
1) Personally, I do not feel comfortable carrying my hg with a bullet in the chamber. I have received a lot of flack over this. Basically, "to each their own". I guess I'll take my chances.
2) I don't trust a 1911 safety. It's too big and can easily get reset to the firing position, IMO. It is a great gun, 45acp will get the job done though. I carry it unchambered 90% of time. Other 10 % of time, when I sense the need.
3) Many people talk a good game (seriously, not referring to anybody here), but when push comes to shove, would crap their pants in a SD situation, run and hide, and be over run with adrenalin to a point where they could not function responsibly.
4)I read posts from various forums on how and what people would do in a SD situation, like they have done it a 1001 times before, talking bravely, and disregarding how sacred life really is. They don't consider the consequences of what it's like to take a life, but sure blab alot.
5) I do carry, and feel the need to carry, but also have a tremendous sense of responsibility for the seriousness of this freedom.
6) I don't think anybody can say what they would "actually" do in those High Stress situations until it actually happened.
7) Like most in here say, It is good to be prepared with practice exercises.
8) My philosophy: "The good lord will take care of me". If it's my turn to go, well, so be it.
9) Finally, these opinions are my opinions, and I accept other people's rights to their opinions.

If we're using anecdotal stories.to demonstrate how stress case affect a shooter, I kept the ocean out of a submarine a few times because of good drills, good training, and 100% accessible tools.

And you really need to understand how hat Kaye works I you're going to insist on a lack of safety win a round in the pipe.

Hak, remember when the thumb safety is off and you have not depressed the grip safety, it will not fire.
I carry cocked and locked every day, I am an old man and plan on getting a lot older. The Lord will look out for me but I beleive he also wants me to do my part. I normall do carry my P3AT in a weak sidwe pocket in case the strong side hand is disabled.

It is no good to keep the hammer down on one in the pipe in a 1911, a hard smack to the hammer would cause it to fire. most 1911s have a heavy firing pin spring that makes them "drop safe" so the inertia of dropping gun cannot make the firing pin hit the primer. when cocked and locked the thumb safety actually mecanically blocks the hammer from falling.

So, if you want the safest carry mode it would be cocked and locked in a good holster, you can put the gun itno action quickly and it will not go off uless you make it do so.....if you are worried about the gun Accidently discharging when it falls out of your nightstand, closet shelf etc then I would say empty chamber full magazine is the way to go this has been called "Cruiser Safe" as in police rifles/shotguns in a cruiser with a loaded magazine and an empty chamber.

how ever you do it practice with it and dry fire a lot.

I just ca not make myself carry an unloaded gun, a rock would be just as good or better and a lot less costly. Now Im being nasty, but if it was a roick and nice and round you could throw it effectively and not have to look for it after.

It doesn't do much good unloaded......But for bedside nightstand storage empty chamber/full mag is ok...I prefer full mag loaded chamber but to each his own.

Great pitchers we may be. Lets just make sure chambered or unchambered , if she is waiting on the nightstand to protect us, the kids and grandkids are'nt visiting the bedroom. I think we could deal w/ meeting the Lord becuase of an intruder getting us than something bad happening becuase we were a little over prepared. P.S. ( Sighning off of this one and going to a topic thats a little more tech.)

This is one of those threads that each must make his own decision. My feeling if your not going to carry a gun ready to shoot leave it at home in the safe. If your not comfortable with the safety system, find one that works for you. I find that those who do not liked Cocked & Locked do not fully under stand the safeties on the gun. Then there are those who do not carry all the time. There thinking they are going to be in a safe enviroment. 20 years ago that was probably true. But I do not thing any place is 100% safe. I use to not carry at home, but one day changed that. My house was staked for a robbery that was averted when they heard me. Armored robberies happen in all neighbors, rich or poor.
