That makes sense as those 2 powders are damn near the same burn rate, Unique is just above Universal Clays on the chart.bgreenea3 wrote:I took 5.0gr of unique w/a 200gr lswc to the range today and it shot fairly well...about the same as 5.0 gr of Universal clays w/ 230 gr lrn....I think I'm going to pick up a pound of bullseye and maybe something else and try that next...... auto comp maybe

That makes sense as 231 is just 2 steps above Green Dot on the burn rate chart. We are all using approximately the same loads with different brand powders. Used many big jugs od GD in my old shotgunning days because it made sum nice soft shooting loads in 12, 20 and 28 gage, shot many 1,000's of those, averaged about 600 rounds a week years ago.Clem wrote:My preference is for about 5.4 gr. of WW231 with a 200 gr. SWC bullet. It shoots very well in my guns and the recoil isn't as snappy as it is with Bullseye. I find it is a good load for making Major in IPSC.

Here's some loads I have worked with. As you can see, I have tried AutoComp. It has taken me a while to get the results I wanted, and had to wrestle a bit. I bought an 8lb container, so I was determined to use it. I love it in my 38sp S&W revolver.

Re: 45acp 200gr lswc loads
I use American Select at 4.3 for 185 gr bullets for a 775 fps (if I remember right). The same or a little less would be fine for 200. This is an extremely clean burning powder recommended to me by a reloading store years ago. I also use it for .38. I changed from Bullseye which is like burning coal for dirt.
The most popular where I shoot is: Bullseye, Clay's, and Tite Group, with a few burning Unique, and a few (like me) Am. Select.
