Majestic Speed Kit

I have the above kit in my Ruger MKIII Hunter. It works quite well most of the time. Has anyone ever tried to remove the receiver once they have stripped the gun using the kit? If so, how did you do it? Just thought that sometimes more cleaning might be necessary. Thanks for all of your help. Cheryl Desrosiers

The only way to take the receiver off the frame is to remove the mainspring housing. The rear receiver lug is part of the mainspring housing assembly. The receiver tube cannot separate from the frame with the lug attached, even though the bolt stop has been unscrewed via the Majestic kit. It is not the bolt stop that keeps the receiver in place, it's job is to keep the bolt secure in the tube. The kit just allows the operator to remove the bolt without having to remove the mainspring housing from the frame, and then have to deal with reseating the hammer strut on the mainspring cap for reassembly. This is why you can't separate the two with the kit.

Look around this site. You will find detailed instructions for disassembly of the Mark III... It's not really as bad as they make out..

I've found a coated tie, like that used to close bread packages, formed into a loop works great for pulling down that mainspring lever....

Once you have the detail strip down, field strip is nothing.
And I use an empty .22 casing to pop that lever out ... there's always a few dozen of them in my range box after shooting anyway.

I've used empty casings too, especially at the range.

I keep a large paper clip in my gun case. It works perfectly to hook the main spring latch.
