A few upgrades for my MKIII

I recently did a few upgrades to my MKIII. I added the Hogue Rubber grips w/o the thumb rest and a Mueller Quick Shot Reflex Dot scope. I will get to shoot it Tuesday for the first time after the upgrade. I'm really looking forward to see how the dot scope works. This is one of few dot scopes that have a true 3moa dot, plus 3 other reticles. It has plenty of brightness to use in bright sun light. And it appears the auto adj does not over drive in low light. I have not found any plastic on the Quick Shot either, mainly all Al construction. With my aging eyes I have had problems seeing open sights and seeing through scopes. My Bushnell 2x does not have enough eye relief for me to shoot it comfortably without a rest. I will still use the scope when I need to shoot at longer ranges using a rest.

Blue, I have a reflex simillar to that with the 4 reticles but no auto adjust on the brightness. It is an older Aimshot thaatcost around 40 bucks as I remember, works very well. Have used it on both rifle and pistol, both rimmfire and centerfire and it works well. Now if you want to go scoped, this is the way to go from a rest.

I made it to the range today, and got a chance to sight and test the Muller Quick Shot. I really have to say I like it. My groups tighten up real nice when compaired to iron sights.

It is so easy to sight, no longer trying to see where my sights are at. My neighbor has the same problem as I do with aging eyes and he loved it too. I do have one question I'm going to email Muller on. I see a tail on the dot at times that makes it harder to concentrate on just a single do. It is more noticeable when I manually turn the dot brightness down. I don't know if this is common on an adj problem on the led or just a back reflection on the glass.

Looks like I need to redo the foam insert in my Pellican 1400 case to keep the Mueller on it at all times.

Also shot a S&W 41 rental gun, so I now have a comparison on my MKIII trigger. My MKIII has a clean break equal to the 41, but my ruger is lighter.

Likely it is your eyes interpreting the dot with a tail on it. It comes with the territory as your eyes approach the vision of Mr. Magoo.

That's a very good possabilty with aging eyes. But I thought it was just me till my neighbor saw it too. It was not there all the time, like it came and went on it's own. Which makes me wonder if there is battery contact or switch problem, or weak battery. The battery was already installed when I got it. But the suppler sent the scope with a spare battery. He only needs far sighted correction, reading glasses. I still shoot better with the QuickShot over open sights.

Bleu, if you are looking at the dot and looking for a problem you will most likelly find one, as that is what you are looking for. LOOK at the target and not th4e ddot and you may never see it.

good advice.... talked to a fellow a while back that had the same problem but instead of a tail he saw a smear, he said it was because of an ocular implant he had instead of lasic eye sugery years ago, he just had to get used to it because thats how his eye interpereted the dot.

That may be it. I will focus on the target more and see if that helps. It only showed part of the time and I never turned it off till at the very last when I changed to manual intensity control.

I did some testing this afternoon and found the tail is only related with my right eye. If I look through the dot with my left eye I do not have the tails only with my right eye, which just happens to be my domant eye. I have had trouble from time to time with my left eye trying to take domant. Which can cause some interesting sighting issues.

Oops, obviously neither can I. Make that - Astigmatism. Lot of folks have it and the condition makes an image appear distorted; kind of like what you described with your dot. Most folks are unaware that they even have this problem, that is until they have to look at something as specific as a highly defined dot of light through a target scope. I found this out first hand back about 25 years ago when I was shopping for a new red dot sight. Every brand I looked at had lousy shaped dots. I handed them to a fellow shooter and he wasn't seeing the same thing I was. I knew I had been diagnosed with an astigmatism in my vision but it wasn't until just then that I realized how much it changed my perception of the things around me.
