Poor Range Etiquette?

Awww shoot...I ment to mention to Old Man that I wish his grandson a safe and meaningful deployment!!!

Y, I agree to overlook the small matters of irritation, or just leave. However, if the action involves a safety issue as important as muzzle sweeping other shooters (me) I can't allow Rule Number One to be violated. I will start by a gentle reminder from the point of view that they don't know any better, and explain it to them in a "helpful" way. Regards

I've also had on several occasions had guys rapid fire and I just yell" knock it off" and that usually works. One time the guy yells back that "that wasn't rapid fire" and I responded " you couldn't empty a mag any faster". Other than a few dirty looks from him and his 2 friends it ended and they behaved. At times someone has to just step-up to the plate and say something. And at 5' 13" tall and 240lbs. I cast a fair sized shaddow

There is a limit on how fast you can shoot at your range?

Understand some ranges do have a limit, that sure takes the fun out of plinking type shootin, some I understand also have limit on the amount of rounds loaded.

I've seen plenty of ranges that have "no rapid firing" policies. The standard for rapid fire is very subjective. Some of this is for liability concerns but most is due to poor behavior exhibited by folks who just appear to be doing nothing more than blasting up the equipment and facilities.

It's always the irresponsible few who ruin it for the many.

I have to use a Forest Service range as well. I like it, but it's about 30 miles from home. The only range in the city is ten bucks an hour, beat up, and run by a bunch of arrogant billy-bobs. No thanks.

Our FS range has had recent, frequent troubles with someone shooting up the chicken wire (strung across for target attaching) with shotguns. And they've had a few blasts at the trash cans and tin out house on site. Plus, they leave the empty shells everywhere. Hundreds of them, on my last trip.

I have to remember to bring some cheap cord or a few good sized boxes to clip targets on. I drop a few rocks or a brick in so they stay put.

It's a shame a few ignoranuses have to mess up the place for everyone else.

How very TRUE.

Rapid fire at the indoor range that I use is defined as rounds faster than 2 sec.

I do all of my rapid fire practice at my Dad's place where I have been spending the summer while he gets away from the heat. At 87 he can do anything he wants. He grew up in Nebraska, as he said he has seen enough cold weather to suit him, the reason he moved to Texas.

Nothing worse then setting up your targets at 50 yards and some wanna be ganster showing up with a pistol grip shot gun and hitting every target down range with his pellets. I joined a local club so I no longer have to deal with these wanna be gang bangers.

My club has a no rapid fire rule. The rationale is that if you are blasting away you probably aren't blasting too accurately.

Yep. At our range there is. Three round burst, pause, another three round burst.
The exception is the falling plate range.

They're everywhere. The club I frequent is full of some of the nicest people I've ever met. Walked one stall over to borrow some staples, wound up talking Mosin Nagant rifles, walked away with 20 rounds of new manufacture 7.62X54R with him insisting I take it.

Then there's the trouble. Guy on the rather full rifle range had four military rifles and was having a grand time firing as much as he could as fast as he could while standing. Tossing brass everywhere, refused to stop so we could setup new targets. He'd empty one, grab another, rattle off a few magazines, grab another. People would say something, he'd pretend he didn't hear them.

Plus our club has weekday access, and gets vandalized often. I suspect pretty soon they're going to close member open access and only allow entrance when staffed on the weekends.

Just found out this morning that he is back already as they did not need that many more medical peoples. He is now going to go to Camp Pendelton for some more advanced medical training.
