I've been meaning to ask this question for a while, but I keep forgetting to do so. Must be an age thing. Anyway, the question is: does anyone know what happened to MKIII.org? I know they had plenty of problems with hackers and such in the past, but I haven't a clue as to what is going on with them now.

Bullseye saw the handwriting on the wall and payed attention to it. He started this forum just in case the old MarkII forum went down the tubes. I joined right after I saw this forum open. I think I am the 4th member by date and the second because my fingers like to talk.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

That's why came here
The problems they were having back then, lead me to come here and join this forum, however I had not been to MarkIII.org for quite a long time and didn't realize they were gone for good. I thought that perhaps they were just suffering problems again.
Well as has been said in the past; everything changes, nothing remains the same.
And I do appreciate the fact that Bullseye has created and maintains this site. I'm just a little surprised that there isn't more posting going on here. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, since I haven't a clue as to the inner workings of these forum sites and how they are financed. Regardless, this is the one place on the Internet that you can go, ask a real question and get a straight forward and accurate answer.
Thanks BULLSEYE

Thanks everyone, but one person does not a good forum make. That being said, I may have started it but it is all of you who make it work. So here is my big thank you - to everyone who is a member of this discussion forum. It is all of you who make this forum a great place to have discussions about firearms and other shooting related items!
I'm not worried about the forum's membership size or the number of posts. If I was, then I'd have open enrollment, and all the spammer attempts would be inflating my membership numbers and making it look many times larger than what it really is. I personally approve each and every membership account to keep the spammers out of the forum, and from possibly from harming anyone's computer. I can say the same for commercial sponsors. I don't have them. Sure, this could be a money making venture, but much to the chagrin of my bride, I won't allow commercial sponsors here on Guntalk-Online. This way when you get advice from me on a particular brand, it is not because they are a sponsor and I'm beholding to promote their products, it's because their product is good and deserves your hard earned money for it. What you get here is straight talk - no bull!
Yleefox is correct, everything does change and nothing remains the same. However what is the same here, is my dedication to ensure that this forum remains a place that all of you can trust and enjoy.
Thank you all,
Bullseye

Well Bullseye it is your railroad to run as you see fit. That said, I for one would not mind a few sponsors selected by you because I believe that it would be an excellent product/service of interest to shooters. I for one would make every attempt to patronize them. Bandwith isn't free, and I still believe in capitalism

I like it the way it is and hope it will stay that way. Bullseye and I were moderators on the old MarkII and III forum and can attest to the problems that popped up now and then due to the lack of scrutiny that Bullseye has now on the membership, this forum is QUALITY an not quantity.KAZ wrote:Well Bullseye it is your railroad to run as you see fit. You could always only select sponsors whose products are quality; however, I doubt you stand by every product a manufacturer produces. Also, having sponsors to appease would probably turn running this forum more into a job for you than it already is.
Everyone that posts on this forum only posts if they can contribute to a topic in some way. That is something I won't say about other forums I read. GTO may not get as many posts as some of the other gun forums, but the posts it does have contain a lot more useful information.

Bullseye you do a wonderful job on this forum. A++++
I'm a moderator on 1 site right now, has nothing to do with guns... It has a automated system for new users, at times it's spammers. So we have to remove them and all of there post. So scanning each uses is actually a good idea. Some how hackers found my FTP and were pounding it 24/7. I ended up blocking ALL connections from 3 isp out of China. And moved my servers Port to a non std one. I have full control of who I grant access to.
Sponsors will just add more work for you. And like you said, not all products a company makes you would recommend. Mainly because you pick the best for job and budget in hand.
Great Job.......

You hit that one right on the head George. That is one thing I really like about this forum.Gerogezilla wrote: Everyone that posts on this forum only posts if they can contribute to a topic in some way.
As it should be. I always enjoy helping others with firearms related info and that philosophy helps promote the shooting sports. The more happy shooters, the more shooters out as setting a positive example as firearms ambassadors for others to see.Georgezilla wrote:GTO may not get as many posts as some of the other gun forums, but the posts it does have contain a lot more useful information.

Interesting
Well, it's a great forum Bullseye and I for one would not mind chipping in a few bucks to help with your cost. It is rare that someone will spend their own money and time to help others, when there is nothing for them to gain financially. Not to mention the expert information....WITH photos too! You are certainly the exception to the rule.
As far as the membership here is concerned, there is a definite element missing; elitist attitudes. Oh how I dislike elitist attitudes. This forum is more like a family of friends and fellow shooters, bound together by a common bond, without the need to proven their superiority.
Okay, I'm through.

Thanks guys for the generous offer of assistance with forum overhead costs, but it is not necessary. I have created and maintained this forum as an outlet for folks to share ideas about shooting related issues. If at some later time it becomes necessary to ask for assistance, I'll start a donation account. But in truth, I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future. I do appreciate all the folks who've offered to chip in, now and in the past, but I have it taken care of.
Thanks,
Bullseye
