This kind of nimble snatch-and-grab raider calls for employing something more successful on a running target like a 12ga loaded with some buckshot.

Yup, on movers you need more power, sounds like a job for 3 inch number 4 buck.

Are they greys or reds? I didn't say this but if they are greys there is a cassettte tape that will really call them if they are anywhere close enough to hear. It is made by Johnny Stewart game calls and is titled "Grey Fox Pup". It is an actual recording of a grey fox pup hollering. Be ready when you turn it on. I have had them come in so fast I did not have time to get my rifle up without being seen. I had to sit tight, let it run off, and come back. It will bring them running with their hair bristled up. Many times a pair will come. Shoot the larger one first if you can which will probably be the male. Let the tape keep playing and stay put and you can probably get the female. If you shoot the female first the male is gone. Go figure.

Reds. Plant Manager at work shot one last week that was CHARGING him, head on. Dumped him with a load of #4 shot from about 25 feet.

I agree on the buckshot, just don't happen to have any around at the moment, and I think SWMBO would find a 12 gauge more than a little intimidating. I plan to pick some up here in a day or three, as soon as I can get to town.

From my experience, Some factory 20 gauge loads in the lighter 20 gauge gun seem to have just as much recoil as the 12 gauge factory loads in the average 12 gauge O/U shotgun. No experience with auto loaders myself but they are usually a little less recoil than an O/U or SxS.

Right on... The light weights (20ga) are nice if you have to carry them all day. But the auto loaders that I have shot, have very little recoil. So it's a trade off, weight vs recoil. But I will stick with my 20ga O/U. For me it's a noise thing. The 12ga hurt my ears without protection and 20ga do not.

You should try a 28 gauge, in my estimation the sweetest shooting shotgun made. Very little recoil and it just crushes targets. A little smaller pattern than a 12 or 20 but very dense, no holes for a target to escape through.

I learned to shoot on a 20 ga single shot stevens with a full choke. This taught be to be a better shot than most, not having the spread. I have a Citori that I use all the time, had for close to 30 yrs now. I shoot very good with it. But if I pick up a Rem 1100 I will cinsistantly shoot 2 ft under every thing. Till I make the mental correction to cover them with the site.

One down. I'd just gone to bed and SWMBO came up and said it was sitting in the driveway looking in the kitchen window. By the time I got down over the stairs it had wandered down the driveway and was standing at the corner of the pasture fence. I spotted it when I peeked around the corner of the garage and Henry the MAGnificent did his thing from about 20 yards. One backflip, 20 feet at a dead run and keeled over.

It was the female, perhaps the male will move on now. I ain't bettin' the rest of my chickens on it tho.

Nice going! Hopefully there won't be any more late night raids but I wouldn't count on it. That new rifle looks like it did the job right!

I shot it with my "old" 22 Magnum Henry.

The new one needs a red dot and a sighting-in session before I'd be taking any live shots with it. 'Dot is on order, if it comes in in time SWMBO and I will be spending some quality time at the gravel pit this weekend

Good shooting friend, just watch out for his big cousin Wiley and the Acme products, but cousin Wiley is a born loser from what I have seen.
