This old rifle has a history. Purchased by my grandfather, from a man in the street needing a meal or bottle of something, in the 30's for a dollar.
His oldest son entered WWII and it was passed on to his youngest son (my uncles). His youngest son is near my age and we grew up together. We spent many hours, days, months and years with this .22 rifle. Over the years, the stock was broken (many times) and new ones made from 2x4's and stained with blackberry juice. I made at least two myself from 2x4's.
At some point the rifle was passed on to me and my brother. We both used it for many more years. Then it was mine alone. I put a Weaver B4 scope on it, then many years later I made a new stock for it from teak. I also had the bolt nickle plated. I reblued it with cold blue (several coats, steel wooled between each coat until uniform).
Then I gave it back to my oldest uncle (original owner). He actually cried. I thought he might pass it on to one of his two sons, but a couple of years later, he gave it back and said he was done admiring and remembering and wanted me to have it. I have passed it on to my oldest son and that is who has it now.
Winchester Mod. 60A....as it looks now.

Thanks. Nice thing about the teak stock.....no finish. It is a waxy feeling wood that quickly turns to that color.

Nice rifle. My first firearm was a Winchester 60A that my father passed on to me. As a kid I loved that gun and eventually when my youngest son was old enough to appreciate the rifle, I passed it on to him. Now that he has a child of his own, I expect that he will most likely pass it on too.
Great story behind your rifle. Thanks for sharing it with us.
