What an incredible optimist! Regards
Sounds like your weather is about the same as ours today, we have mid 30's and windy but Bear does'nt really care as he has a nice all weather coat that he wears all the tim. Must be nice to be ready to go at all times.

Well, as you know we can't resist them very long so we braved the Norther and did our walk(no rabbits)and for some unknown reason the icy wind hammered my face on both the down leg of our walk and the return. We may have cut it short. The good news is that I did go to the gun show(many, many people) and it would have been a total loss as I saw no Challengers,Medalist, etc that would cause me to spend $$$. However I did score a very nice Browning Challenger magazine :D If, you can believe it they are even harder to find, and more expensive than the HS mags.

KAZ the world must be against you as you had a head wind in both direction, don't do anything dangerous the rest of the day.

What are Friends for??

Post by Tigerbeetle » Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:20 am

I'll tell you what... I must just live right to have a couple guys like y'all to be willing to make my life easier. OM, What I did on my Henry was make a quick trip to Bass Pro when I saw my Weaver bases were to big and bought a combination set of rings and bases by Traditions ( I think that was the name) for about $10. Couldn't believe they were so cheap. One inch rings with the 3/8's inch dove tail for the Henry. Took the K-4 out of the Weaver rings and stuck in in the new ones. Worked like a charm. The bases locked up real tight and haven't moved. 'Course, I haven't carried it around by the scope and dropped it out of trees or tall buildings, but the mounts seem to be really worth the cheap price. If I want to change scopes, I think I would just loosen the scope rings on the one inch scope and leave the bases right where they are. That would save buying bases. Now my curiosity is up to know how close the zero would be, and if I switched scopes back and forth, and torqued them about the same when I swapped them, if the zero(s) would remain the same. What do you think? I found those bases hanging on a peg in the air rifle area. Dang, now I want another scope worse than ever. Thanks a lot, guys. :x :) Would that Medalist look tacky with a rail and a scope or a red dot on it? Y'all are more trouble than you are worth, I do believe. Its a good thing the dogs don't know all your bad habits! TB

The only one of the Challenger/Nomad,Medalist series with a scope mounting bolt on rail is the Medalist. you can see it here http://www.bme-mounts.com/products.html I would like to have a red dot on my Challenger, but it is a drill and tap thing. Regards

TB, glad to see that you are paying attention and learning by someone else making the mistakes. The nice part of working with my old friend and his staff is, " Dougie this won't work, Lennie try this, 10 bucks will cover it, ion returning something. The Millet rings I got cost a little over 20 bucks, probably will not hold as well as the Weaver because there is no cross pin and notch. I have 4-10/22's with Weaver and not the Ruger rails so that they all match and I have swapped scopes around, they will usually be dead on as far as windage and need just a slight elevation adjustment. You should be able to swap with minor adjustments, but another scope would really be nice. You don't need the high dollar scopes, mine are all Tasco or Barska and they work just fine, Put a sc ope on the Medalist, it;s your gun isn't it? You can do as you please and if someone doesn't like the looks of it they can look the other way, us old guys are quite outspoken at time, but we do carry. You might scope it like my Great Eight. Will have to get pic of Henry with his glasses and post that sometime.

Call it what you want, it's just like me. Not much for looks but it does work and get the job done. Bear has had his morning peepee in the yard and his 3 dog cookies on reentry of the house, now he is guarding my feet at the desk, or maybe taking a nap.

BAOM

Post by Tigerbeetle » Mon Mar 30, 2009 7:34 am

Would that stabilizer be the rectangular fitting around the base of the grips? Looks like a winner to me, might have to do some fabricating as well. I was looking at the medalist rail again. Might be my next investment. I don't have a "Bear" sleeping at my feet, but I do have a rather spoiled cat that thinks I am his personal staff (slave). Image

He's one of several that rule my life around the house. TB[/img]

You got that figured out, yes that is the Wobble Stabilizer and it does work. First tried shooting the scoped pistol from a rest and ha d a lot of trouble trying the keep the crosshairs vertical and steady. Got working in my woodshop with some red oak and it is clamped lightly to he pistol base ND ATTAched with hot glue. The hot glue will just peel right off the polymer frame if you want to go with it, if it was clamped on too tight it deformed the mag well and made loading and unloading the mag very difficult. Cats and dogs do require staff, when my 3 daughter were small we always had cats of varying numbers and ancestry. Cats are a little more independent than dogs normally. Bear is always under my feet, sometimes it's awkward but his love is so wonderful.

KAZ, can't let Bear see this or he will want his own cat too, you know how animals get jealous, or does the cat think the real Kaz is hia dog? Your cat and TB's cat remind me of some that we had when the girls were young
My smith gave me a box of Aquila Centurion to try out and though that today may be a good day to do it. BUUUUUT, we got a half inch of snow last night and as of 11:00AM it still has not melted.

Kaz, your cat has a good choice in dogs. My daughter has pit bull that was raised with three kittens. One big happy family, and I believe the felines believe Remy the dog is a giant hot water bottle upon which to lay. Critters are great, which is why I prefer ecological risk assessment over human health risk assessment any day of the week. (my daytime job with Ga DNR).

BAOM, I will try to duplicate the wobble stabilizer. Boy, that is some kind of scope outfit on that Ruger. I can understand why the wobble fixer is needed. I have an old 1x6 x a couple feet of walnut that would probably supply the components to make a pretty good one. I saw a picture of a Burris scope that looked pretty neat. I will definitely have to start searching the web. Can you shoot a top side down shot, or I guess a bottom side up shot since it is glued in place. Looks like a handy device. Not that my hands are shakey, but I just need all the help I can get. :!: TB

TB, will be putting it back on in the next few days and will get some more shots for you and e mail them to you, so as not to clutter the forum up so much. Her is a target shot with the Great Eight and the Wobble Stabilizer at 25 yards last summer. E mail me so I can get your address to send pics to you.
