VQ Exact Extractor question.

I see many who have done this modification. Can someone please explain reasoning for this? My 25 year old MKII seems to work fine. Will there be a day I need this MOD???

The VQ extractor is laser cut and not stamped and is just a little higher quality part with closer tolerance and clean sharp edges. Remember if it ain't brok, maybe it really don't need to be fixed.

You may not ever have to replace that extractor. Not everyone experiences extraction problems with the factory extractor. The OEM one does wear faster than a VQ extractor. The VQ is a higher quality metal that lasts a good long time. Don't replace your factory extractor if it's working fine. But if you start experiencing failures to eject, then a VQ extractor is a very inexpensive way to get everything running fine again.

My failures to eject have always been related to cleanliness. If I had the problem I'd first do a good cleaning and light lube. If it persisted across all types of ammo, I'd be in the market for the VQ extractor.

I have two MKIII's I bought new and 2 MKII's I bought used. All have the OEM extractors and none have FTE problems when reasonably clean. The VQ extractor looks like an inexpensive, quick fix if you do have problems that can't readily be assigned to something else.

Changed a couple of mine but not sure they really needed it. Took one out of one of the 22/45's and put it in one of my 10/22's I was having a problem with and the problem was solved. Right now I am really not sure which guns have stock or which ones have the VQ because everything is working.

Hello guys,
Do you also change the extractor spring when changing the extractor? My MKIII has over 6,000 rounds and I am starting to get failure to eject problems every thirty or so rounds.

Not sure about the spring, for some reason I am thinking the spring thst comes with is is for a 10/22?????????

I have a brand new one in the pack waiting to be installed. It says "Use factory spring for Markll & Marklll".

That's what i thought, just trying to remember when I put mine in a few years ago.
the extractor is the same for the 10/22 and the Mark pistols, just makes sense to use a part you already have instead of designing and tooling up for another one. The spring with the extractor is for the 10/22 and may be a little longer, Bullsye will know.

I guess the big question is did you already change the factory extractor for a VQ one or is your stock extractor wearing out? The spring provided inside the VQ package is for the 10/22. But some of the packages come with just a VQ extractor hook and no spring. However you get it leave the factory extractor plunger spring installed.
