I have a mkiii 22/45 that works great. I have always like the looks of a mkii or 3 because you can change the grips. The one I bought already has factory wood grips, gold trigger and a rail. The gun is like new. I think my fatherinlaw wishes he had not sold it after I left :D How do they compare with the 22/45?

I don't know what you paid for it but that is a Lipsey's exclusive model with the slab sided 5.5 inch target barrel. They sold new for around $330-$360 and are worth much more today. I cannot believe he wanted to part with that pistol. The "GCL" designation breaks down like this: Government, Competition, Lipsey's.

What is a lipsey's and why are they special? I gave $325. Can you give me a link on how to break it down to clean.

Lipseys is a large firearms distributor http://www.lipseys.com/ Ruger makes special exclusive models for these large sellers like Lipseys and Davidsons. They add different features that are not found on their stock models. For example gold anodized triggers, the short bull barrel cut to the slab side configuration, Hi-Vis sights, special grip panels, etc.

Here's basic field stripping for the Mark III http://www.guntalk-online.com/fsprocedures.htm

I really like how these particular MKIIs look. The blued slab side looks awesome to me. Let us know how it shoots. Congrats on the find.

Those exclusive Ruger pistol models are like buying a "luxury" edition at a car dealer. It's the same basic car but it has a different trim package and comes with fancy gold plated lettering on the name plates.
