Extractor replacement question

Is there a trick to getting the scribe or other pointed tool between the plunger & claw? I got my new VQ Extractor today & am following the excellent instructions, but I can't seem to get between the spring plunger & extractor (that's one strong spring!) Tried a stainless dental pick, jeweler's screwdriver, but can't seem to get it it there!

Step. 3: "Insert a scribe (or other sharp pointed tool) in between the extractor spring plunger and the extractor claw."

Did you push out the firing pin stop pin part way, if you did not you will not be able to compress the spring far enough. The pin in all of the later guns is a steel rollpin and you will need to tap it out with a punch and hammer part way.

Use the above link for a good picture of the rollpin.

It can be a little tricky some times to get the scribe between the claw and the plunger. You have to push the extractor hook out with your finger. This will move the rear of the hook into the place where the bolt has a circular cut out. Then work in the tool between the two metal parts. You may have to release the hook with your finger a little to open up a gap as you wedge in the tool. It may take a few tries. Once the tool is in between the parts you can push the plunger rearward with the tool. The firing pin stop pin has to be moved out of the way to allow clearance for the rear of the plunger to clear the back of the hook. Then take a pair of pliers and grab the hook and pull it out of the slot.

This is what the plunger looks like inside the bolt.

Mission accomplished!!!! :D Extractor now installed!!! :)
As they always say, the only stupid question is the one not asked!
GunTalk Online is the greatest!!!! Great learning experience!!
I ended up completely removing firing pin stop pin (the solid type) and had the firing pin, rebound spring and guide assembly out of the bolt also.
It was not my intent to do a complete bolt disassembly, but the stop pin slid right out, so I got to learn a bit more about my MKIII than I had planned. It will be next weekend before I get to shoot again to test the new extractor, but I'm confident that all will function well!

Thanks again for the education!!!!!!

That will happen, that is why the newr gun have a roll pin so it will not fall out and get lost, have fun.

Pawn: My favorite cigar at the moment is the Camacho SLR Maduro. Of course, there's so many excellent smokes available, my favorite changes alot! Just about anything from Padron, Fuente, Padilla, Tatuaje Miami, Partagas, Perdomo, Gurkha, Rocky Patel makes me happy! Of course on extreme rare occasions, I have tasted the forbidden fruits from that island south of Miami!!
