Curmudgeon, I know you from some other forum, but can't, for the life of me, think which one. Do you know which other forum we share? TQ?

Just a few hours ago, I installed a Volquartsen sear and disconnector link and while I had it down, I adjusted the post travel screw. What a difference. The disconnector link cut the pretravel (to about 1/16") in half and along with the sear it now has a nice light trigger pull and little post (over) travel. It feels like a custom trigger job. Test firing in the morning. I have a VQ extractor hook but, for the life of me, couldn't figure out how to install it. It looks like you just push the spring/plunger down to remove/install it. but I couldn't get a hold of that plunger to push it down.

It's a little tedious but you have to use something sharp like a scribe and push it in to compress the extractor spring. Be sure to remove the firing pin stop first. Here is the link with good instructions.

Thanks, Smoky. I knew there had to be instructions on this site somewhere. I was finally able to get a small jewelers screwdriver behind it, but working at the kitchen table, I wasn't able to hold it. Not enough hands. I'll try again in the shop today. A vice may be just the ticket. That's one stout spring.

Test fired this morning with new VQ parts (sear and disconnect link), but not extractor hok..50 rounds of Golden Eagle....4 FTE jams. Then I struggled some and almost gave up, but did finally get the new VQ extractor hook installed. Fired another 50 rounds, same ammo and had no jams of any kind.

Those three VQ parts (and adjustment of the over-travel screw) made my 22/45 one sweet shooter. Time will tell if the FTE problem is solved, but if my experience is the same as many others, I suspect it is.

Glad to hear that you got the extractor in. I usually use a hooked scribe to hold back the plunger. I've done so many changes it takes me about a 30 seconds to change an extractor on average. You're right about that plunger spring, it is pretty stout. Which makes one wonder if the OEM hook is failing to hold the empty case with such a strong spring, the hook has to be a misfit.

Enjoy that newly modified pistol.

The OEM hook is sharply pointed and the VQ hook is chisel pointed. Maybe that's the difference????

If you have further Ruger adjusting needs, Springfields Roddy Toyota is nearby. He does triggers on the original Ruger parts that are better than Volq. I am not sure about the 2245, but a MkII trigger turns out great. I almost like to shoot my tuned MkII more than the Hammerli 208s.
