Occassional FTE Ruger MKII

Now and then, one of my empty cases will not eject properly. It comes out of the chamber but winds up lying in the breech stopping the bolt from closing on the new round. Does this sound like an extractor problem? The gun is fairly old, but probably doesn't have more than 5000 rounds thru it. Advice appreciated. Thanks

It could be a sign of a worn extractor or that the extractor plunger may need some deep cleaning. You mentioned that the gun was old and some residue may have worked its way into the bolt's extractor groove causing it to be delayed by friction. Disassemble the bolt as per this link, http://www.guntalk-online.com/detailstrip.htm#extractor ,and give it a good cleaning.

If that doesn't do it then you may want to consider upgrading to a VQ Exact edge extractor.

Hope this helps.
