Velocity of 22LR

Post by blue68f100 » Tue Jul 07, 2009 2:00 pm

I do not know if this is the right place for this, if not please move it.

I was at the range shooting some different ammo to see how my MKIII functioned. It worked flawlessly with all ammo I put through it. All of my trigger adj held good, pre and post travel. I did noticed the trigger has to move quite a distance when compaired to the single action on my Sig. I may have to work on this part.

What I found was the bulk pack of Winchester Expert22 was shooting 2" low at 25 yrds, when compaired to Fed 724, and 750's. They soundedlike they were lighter/softer. I know the 724 have a 2" spread when compaired to the AE22. These AE22 I'm keeping for hunting.

I let a regular at the range shoot my MKIII w/scope at 25yrds he was all over the place. Then he offered to let me shoot his 45. His eyes could not believe my grouping. I had a 5 shot 1.5" group at 15 yrds, open sights. But the group was 3" to the left. I looked at the rear sight and it was adjusted to one side. He did not have a grouping, a 12" scatter pattern. I think he was adjusting his sites for his new glasses. He had a snap that he could flip down and have his bifocal lens, but it was for both eyes. Which may explain his scatter if he's not getting a good target lock before picking up the sights.

Over all a pretty good day at the range........ :D

Different brands and velocities will have slight impact variations when compared to others. You're doing the right thing by finding out what your pistol likes and then knowing the impact changes for each brand. It is good to keep a shooter's log of your findings so you can refer to it at a later time.

Here's some threads (from the historical file) with ammo velocity comparisons within them:

Hope this helps

Bullseye, Thanks for the links. That is a good idea to make a log on this. So mo/yrs from now if I run across some ammo I can see if I have tried it in the past. I do keep a log of all of my reloads.... Noting which gives me the most accuracy and any other useful info.

I will see if WW and Federal sites have info on velocities on there load numbers. Knowing coming out of a pistols the vel will be slightly lower.

Here is a nice little application for all of your Federal information.

Thanks for the link, I use a MAC so I will have to install it on my Parallels partition where I have XP-Pro. It works 99% of the time though.

Been a little busy today, went fishing this morning and had a problem with my outboard motor. Will pick up some parts tomorrow to fix the problem.
