New 22/45 (Mark III) hammer pivot pin

One of our members, jaybar, reported that Ruger has redesigned the hammer pivot pin for the Mark III 22/45. This new pin is in response to the problems many owners experienced when the old pins walked in the frame and damaged it. All new pistols, since June 2007, are being shipped with these new pins installed. Here is how to tell if you have a new hammer pivot pin in your 22/45.

If you own a Mark III 22/45 and want to get a new style pin, just call Ruger's Customer Service Number (928) 778-6555 and ask for the parts department. Once connected to parts, request a new hammer pivot pin and they will send one to you.

Sorry to bump an old thread. Looks like mine has the old set up.

I think I'll give them a call and order the new pin. I'm at work, but if I recall correctly, my MKIII was made in May of 2007. Looks like I just missed the upgrade.

Bullseye, will they send this along for free?

Yes, Ruger will send it for free once they verify your serial number. While you're at it, stop by their website and fill out the online owner card so they have a record of your ownership if anything else comes up in the future. I know when they upgraded the LCI they used the registration to send current owners the kits to replace the old LCIs.

Do you suppose they would do a package deal with the roll pin firing pin stop???

All you can do is call them and ask. I would expect them to easily drop a roll pin in the envelope along with a hammer pin - it wouldn't change the postage. They've sent me packages with multiple parts included before. The last one I got from them had six 22/45 new style hammer pins inside it. (Ruger will send these parts in a manila padded envelope via regular mail)

Will you advise that I get this pin for my 22/45? You'll remember it is one of the earliest, and has a polymer frame.

Thanks for the info Bullseye! I'll give them a ring soon. Is this an easy part to replace? Something tells me it will involve a pretty good tear down.

Just got off the phone with Ruger and my new Hammer Pivot Pin and Roll Pin for the firring stop pin are in the mail..
That has got to be the nicest bunch of customer service people I have dealt with , AND THEY ALL SPEAK ENGLISH

Ruger knows I have this parts change up on the Internet. They get requests for these pins all the time. Ruger does their best to meet their customer's needs - more than any other company I've dealt with in the past. Plus, you don't have to navigate a huge call tree just to get to talk with the service rep.

The new hammer pin is easy to replace. You just have to strip the pistol and then pull the old one out and stick in the new one. I have breakdown directions with pictures on my 22/45 maintenance page. http://www.guntalk-online.com/2245detailstripping.htm It only takes me a few minutes to replace one, but if it's your first time it may take a little longer. Plan on 10-20 minutes from start to finish should be about right for this job.

Your 22/45 is a Mark II and those frames do not have this problem. It is only the new Mark III 22/45's that are experiencing problems with frame tear-out. The newer frames are thinner than the older ones and this is causing the hammer pins to walk to the right side of the frame and damage it.

I think my 22/45 may have the upgraded pin. The new pin has a shape similar to nail head...I assume to keep it from moving inside of the frame. I will take pics of mine when my new pin arrives for compairison purposes. If that's the case, maybe the new pins were installed starting sometime in May of 2007...when my 22/45 was made.
