New Ruger Mark III owner and new member

Post by Tonylc » Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:08 pm

Well I must confess that I had planned to purchase a Buckmark but my local dealers couldn't get the one I wanted. I've learned that "Browning makes them in batches, some models are scarce, and no one(including Browning) knows when they will be available". So the story went. After gaining much knowledge from Guntalk and a bit of prodding from my brother (who owns a Mark II Government Model), I purchased a new Mark III Deluxe 5.5 slab side and haven't looked back. I took it home and cleaned it then went to the range and put 300 rounds of Mini-Mags through it without a single malfunction. Accuracy was good but it came with the HI-Viz/V-notch sights which I don't care for, nor am I particularly consistent with them. I changed them out for the sights that come on the Mark III Competition Model. I've since added the VQ Mark III accurizing kit sans the bolt release lever. The kit put this thing on a different level; I love it! Below is a pic. Thanks Bullseye for the great info - you and Ruger have made the last four weeks so much fun that I've also purchased a used 22/45 Mark III. I've got some questions on that gun but I'll save it for another post.

Welcome to a great forum.

Enjoy your new pistol, it looks great. I'm like you and don't care for the HiViz/V notch sights.

Beautiful looking pistol Tony. I really like the look of the deep red finish on those grips.

Thanks Bullseye. The grips and the 5.5 inch slab sided barrel are what initially drew me to this particular model.

Pretty Pretty pistol.

I love those slab sides, sooner or later I will run across one that talks me into taking it home. Nice choice all around, looks very nice.
