I'm getting the itch for a 9MM and I'm liking the SR9. I really have to hit the gun store and see how it feels and what they're going for pricewise.
I picked up a copy of "Combat Handguns" magazine and they have a review of the SR9. The reviewer liked the pistol and said it was a step up from Ruger's past 9MM's. He also said that it would be pretty easy for the gun owner to take out the mechanism that only allows the pistol to be fired with the magazine in place. (Bullseye...I need help with the terminology there

I am shopping around now for a 9 myself. So far I haven't seen any SR9's showing up in my area. But I'd definitely like to get my hands on one. Right now I am considering the Sig P226, S&W M&P and Springfield XD9. I already have a Sig P220 so the manual of arms would be identical for the P226 and they could even use the same holster. I am not real fond of the grip safety on the Springfield and also IDPA considers this pistol a single action so I could not use it in SSP division. The M&P has a real nice trigger on the one I was able to hold and try. I don't want to mess with a Glock or an H&K because of issues with leading in those barrels with polygonal rifling. I've heard conflicting stories about whether leading is an issue or not and I reload a lot of cast lead bullets.

Even though I'm a 1911 kinda guy 9mms have their place in life I guess. I own a Tanfoglio which I like pretty well but I had to work on the trigger pull a bit to make it sweeter shooting. It's a CZ clone and I like the way it fits my hand....plus it's all steel construction which is a plus

I've seen one person shooting an SR9 and he gave it a good report. Wandered around the Richmond gun show Saturday. A couple of dealers had them (~$400). They felt good. A big plus might be the elevation adjustable rear sight.
I have an M&P9, which I like and couldn't decide if I wanted another striker fired 9mm.

Well, I guess since I started this thread, I ought to chime in here. I ended up buying another Sprinfield XD, a Tactical this time. I like the single action trigger pull better on them than any of the other similar offerings. This particular gun is the SHTF piece because of the high-cap mags and the reliability. It won't be riding on my hip much, unlike my Kimber.
That little Ruger is a sweet looker, though and I still wouldn't mind having one; just not yet.

I read a few posts on rugerforum.com about some people having issues with the gun. There are also a number of people who haven't had any problems. I guess waiting on this one wouldn't hurt much.

I'm usually reluctant to be the first guy to buy a new product of any sort. I kind of like to let somebody else try them out first.

I hear you on that. It's sometimes better to let things get worked out before jumping onboard.

I BOUGHT A NEW SR9 BEFORE CHRISTMAS, ONLY HAD A FEW CHANCES TO SHOOT IT UNTILL RECENTLY. LET ME TELL YOU WHY I ALREADY TRADED IT IN TOWARDS A SIG SAUER 225.
THE TRIGGER IS TERRIBLE, SCRATCHY AND IT DRAGS, CHECKED THE ENGAGEMENT SURFACES AND THEY APPEARED TO BE UNFINISHED . TERRIBLE. ROUGH FINISH INSIDE THE SLIDE WITH MANY TOOLMARKS.
MAGS ARE INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOAD WITH FMJ BALL AMMO, THE NOSE OF THE BULLIT GETS STUCK IN THE SLOT FOR THE MAG DETENT. NOT WELL DESIGNED. IT LOADED FINE WITH HOLLOW POUNT AMMO. BUT WHO CAN AFFORD TO SHOOT THAT ALL THE TIME.
THIS GUN BITES YOUR HAND! I FOUND IT MORE COMFORTABLE TO SHOOT MY KIMBER CUSTOM 2 , WITH 45 FMJ , THAN TO SHOOT AN EQUAL AMMOUNT OF AMMO OUT OF THE SR9. DON'T KNOW WHY, MAYBE I'M JUST MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE RECOIL AND WEIGHT OF THE FULL SIZE 1911.
I'M NOT A RUGER HATER, IN FACT I HAVE A 22/45, A 10/22/ M77 IN 30.06 AND HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF NUMBER 1'S AND THEY ALL SHOOT GREAT AND ARE VERY DEPENDABLE. I THINK RUGER GOOFED ON THIS ONE.
I TRADED IT IN FOR A SIG SAUER 225/P6 TURN IN FROM EUROPE. I SPENT THE EXTRA $30 TO GET ON REFINISHED AND HAND SELECTED. WHAT A FINE GUN! BEST $ 350. I'VE SPENT IN YEARS. SHOT 200 RDS TODAY WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS. SURE THE MAG ONLY HOLDS 8 ROUNDS BUT IT DOES HAVE A SPARE MAG.
SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A SIG SAUER.

Anyone know of the date(s) that they started to ship with the "new" mags?

One of the gun rag's did a write up on it a couple months back where they shot 10,000 plus rounds through it, without a burp. They had noted that the trigger got better as the test wore on and they were happy with it's shooting ability. I handled them several times, then decided I'd buy a Browning Hi-Power instead.
Very happy with the BHP to say the least!

Just thought I would take the opportunity to say hi...so.... Hi!
I haven't owned a lot of 9MM pistols but I have to admit I love my P95. It just fits my hand nicely and I get real accurate and repeatable paterns wth it. It even impressed my CPL instructor as we had a little contest between his Glock and my Ruger. Did have one problem with the ambi mag release. My fat index finger would trigger the release on the inside of my palm with the recoil. Contacted Ruger, they said file it off, so filed off it is. No more problems. Now I can't very sell it to a lefty, but as much as I like the thing I doubt I will ever sell it. Per my fondness of the 95, I am really keeping an eye on the SR9 as well. Great to find a good forum like this to help me watch.
