Thanks. pal. Instead of just mailing a check to me And mailing you a thank you note. Why not give me your address and when I get there you can give it tiome in 100's, 50's and 20's and I can thank you properly. Yes it has been dull lately, I love plastic guns too.ruger22 wrote:worth of information and fun here! Just checking to see if anyone is still awake here, been kind of quiet........
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

I would have bet you would be the first to reply. I checked yesterday and there was one post, today, none. Maybe everybody's using their free time shootin' instead of typin'.........
I hope to use my range Sunday. Supposed to be 85 and sunny. Depends on the occaisionally better half's "plans" for me, but she knows mine and hasn't said any different.

Got 4 pr 5 sessions in last week, only one so far this week as it has been cold, windy and runny this week. My shooting bud and J have been playing with some poof load for the .38/.357 guns we own. So far we have come up with one which is super accurate and very quiet and recoils like a .33 for 25 yard. Give us retired guys a challenge to test out our thinking about, velocities and different bullets and powders. So far best is with a lead wad cutter or a lead hollow base wad cutter, got some potential with round nose and round nose flat point also. At the time semi wad cutters are giving us a challenge, seems like they have to be a fairly potent load to stabilize their flight.ruger22 wrote:I would have bet you would be the first to reply. Guilty
I must admit that I have been a slacker lately re: posting to the forum. I started a new job / assignment on May 2 with the typical demands on time.. (missed the last 2 rounds of layoffs, tho) and was on a business trip last week. Now that the weather is so good here.. my wife has found new and creative yard projects for me. I have still found time to get to my local range and punch holes in paper, though. Mostly shooting my SA XDM 3.8 in - 9mm.
Here is something new:
My shooting partner and son-in-law found a new NC facility of interest. Per the website.."TigerSwan is a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Business that provides comprehensive solutions to global instability, operational risk management, training, logistics, crisis management, business intelligence, and security consulting services to the US Government and corporate clients."
Well.. that is what you would expect on a website. What they are is a comprehensive training facility on 1200 acres near Fort Bragg / Fayetteville, NC. It just opened a month ago but is a derivative of the Blackwater (now Xi) business in Moyock, NC. for tactics and weapons training to military, government, LEO and civilians. The instructors are mostly ex-special forces. John made a trip there 2 weeks ago and met the director and some staff.. toured the place.. used the pistol range, too. It is clearly a new place but should be successful given its location.
John (w/ my 2 daughters) signed us up for a 1 day tactical firearms class next month as a Father's day present. How great is That?!
I am looking forward to it.. if just to get away from the damn yard work for a day.

I know that feeling well........Coach1 wrote: I started a new job / assignment ........ my wife has found new and creative yard projects for me......... just to get away from the damn yard work for a day.

I noticed it has been quiet. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and getting out has been a priority. Did some shooting Saturday and between flat not being able to focus/see the front sight, two cases of tennis elbow and problem with the achilles tendon I was very disappointed in my lack of consistency with the GC and Hunter. Will bring a net next time to catch the parts as they fall off.
Did learn yesterday that they don't give outboard engine repair parts away.

Don't think they giver anything way. Done a little shooting also and rediscovered MiniMags, they shoot very good in my GM barreled guns, almost equal to Wolf MT and possibly better, work very accurate and function well I'm my 18-22 also. 15-22 was not running well on Blazers but great on the MM stuff, so it is now it's chosen ammo.greener wrote:

Still waiting for Ruger22 to get my Million to me, no sight of him at this time.

Ruger 22 says this forum is worth a million, if you keep reading and swapping info and tall tales.
My budget pinched just from my range trip yesterday. Shot four hundred rounds of Federal bulk .22 HP, had so-so results. Best smile was one Bobcat doing about 100 without a hiccup. The other Bobcat did as well on last trip, so I guess they are finally 100% "broken in".
Not a cloud in sight, about 87 degrees, humidity felt 150% with no breeze. Most of range was muddy from daily afternoon storms we've been getting for several weeks. It was far from my most enjoyable visit.

TigerSwan part 2
This coming weekend was the training class at TigerSwan that s-i-l & I were going to for the 1 day tactical pistol session near Fort Bragg. Well, the outlook is for near 100 degrees for Saturday. I mean for this to be fun.. not training for desert warfare. So.. we will defer until September. Call me wimp if you like.. but my tolerance for hot days is not what it used to be. We will probably just visit the local range instead.

I can relate to the heat. I was at the local indoor range this morning with the temp outside in the mid 80's. But the humidity was high and it felt like a sauna, with only enough air flow to remove the smoke.
But all in all it was a good day at the range....

range time.. and temp
Blue.. I can relate. I used to shoot regularly at an indoor range. It was cold in winter and Hot in summer. The exhaust system works great but does little to moderate the temp. Now, I mostly shoot at an outdoor range in rural Harnett county, NC. My shooting buddy and I often have the 25 yard range all to ourselves... and that gives some freedom to do more than just stand at the static firing line and blast away. That is, some holster work, change targets when needed, etc. The per-hour cost is more than at the indoor range (although no club / membership fees to deal with. But the day is way more fun and productive.
