Home Protection

Talk me into or out of a Glock 17 in .40 cal for home protection and CCarry.

No problems with your choice for CC.

Might want to think about using it for home protection tho. My primary concern is over penetration. That can be addressed through the use of frangible bullets.
An empty weapon is just a very expensive hammer.

a glock 17 might be hard to find in .40 they are more numorus in 9mm.... a glock 22 are easier to find in 40, and they are just fine for home protection or cc carry but a glock 19 or 23 might be easier to conceal

I wondered why I was scratching my head then it dawned on me, as noted above. The 17 is a 9mm. Now it and it's model 22, 40 cal cousin in my opinion is on the large side to conceal, though they shoot well enough. Personally I wouldn't buy it and go for a model 23/27 if you are considering packing that puppy in your pants if you wanted a 40cal.

That said I would only by a glock in 9mm platform as they have had their share of issues in their other platforms, added to that I actually like to shoot and 9mm is easier to find and cheaper to the pocket. Oh and with the newer line up of defense bullets it will protect you just as well, as in the end it is shot placement that really counts.

good luck

I would only use a pistol for home protection in an absolute emergency where I could not use a 12 gauge pump shotgun.

Kind of hard to swing a 32 inch barrel trap gun in a narrow hallway. pistols are much more flexible.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

Yes, however mine fits nicely leaning up against the wall near the headboard.

I'm not much of a fan of 40cal. Why not go all the way to a 45acp, instead of a 40. The 45acp is a larger round, has less cartridge pressure upon firing. There seems to be a surplus on 40 cal at shops as compared with other calibers, so there are a lot of people who think on the same lines. I would get a glock 30, or 36. That's just me though.

Yeah, I hate running thru the doorway and finding myself on my back because I forgot it was 16 inches wider than the door...

the nicer thing about a handgun, if for some reason you ended up in close quarters with a BG, you still have options...
