New 22/45 Model Introduced Today

Ruger just announced a new 22/45 pistol that has the removable 1911 style grip panels on it.

I've been telling folks for years that Ruger reads these boards looking for new ideas/comments, and now they've come out with a polymer frame to answer the problem of the skinny girth of the 22/45 Mark III. No more having to grid off the moulded panels to install 1911 bushings, now the frames can come that way from the factory. I'm sure they waited until now to show it off at the 2010 Shot Show.

That looks good but doggone it I just got my grips & screws & and going to modify mine. Any idea what the price difference will be?

They don't say other than the ridiculous MSRP retail price they list on the model. It will take a while for these to filter out to the shops; I'd say look in about a month at the high moving dealers shops.

I was just going to post that! They give an MSRP of $380......my guess is street price will be $299. I'll buy one at that price! I really like the looks and the ease of changing grips.

Should be another fun gun from Ruger. I think Ruger is making a real effort to get some interesting guns to the market. Kudos to them!

A lot of folks over the years have expressed a desire to have a frame that was already capable of accepting 1911 grip panels. Ruger is just providing what the consumers want. It really doesn't take much to make the frame mold without checkered panels on the sides but it is another production cost. I predict these frames will be very popular along with aftermarket grip panels to go on them. I don't expect Ruger to sell these frames separately. It is against their policy to sell frames as separate items and I expect they'll keep that policy in force.

I asked my dealer to order one today......I don't have to buy it, but I will get first chance at it!

Actually, with Techteach's grips, the current MKIII 22/45 does pretty well.

Ahhh, my friend you do read and comprehend. Do I need more, most likely not. Do I want more, most likely, yes. Dis I relly need a Marlin 1894 in .38/.357, a Remington Nylon 66 Browning clone 22ATD, or a few others? You can be he judge on that. Well, I probably thought I needed them to keeep them away from the gun hoarders. Got the Techteach grips on 2 of my MarkII's now and they are nice.

I think I will be looking for deals on all the old 22/45 that will be for sale.

My MKII and MKIII 22/45's need to be filled out in different barrel lengths.
