What I've done is use a pair of padded shooting gloves for the high end loads. The gun is quite comfortable in bare hands with the factory grips for target loads, and the gloves let me shoot the hot ones pretty comfortably too. A 50 round box of hotties is plenty for an old fart like me anyway.
With .45 ACP, I could shoot all day.
My Blackhawk .45 convertible has been a great shooter in either .45 Colt or .45 ACP. I see little, if any, drop off in accuracy going from colt to ACP loads. The only thing I didn't like about the revolver were the hard rubber grips Ruger has been using lately. I much prefer the rosewood grips. I swapped grips with the single six. Supposedly, the grips for lock and no lock models are different. I haven't found any difference in function.
Yes they are Mr Greener, you are right. The Internal Lock interferes with the No-Lock grips. Alot of people are disappointed at the whole issue. I guess it didn't dis me entirely because I changed my mind again and decided to "buy the gun". I should have the gun this weekend, stock grips and all. Actually, I am really looking forward to this gun, because it has many functions I am looking for in a gun. If somebody can direct me to soft grips like Hogue makes, Ill be friends with you!

Give the Hogues a try. I don't think there is any reason that the grips can't be swapped between lock and pre-lock New Model Blackhawks.

From left to right: .357 Blackhawk, Single Six, .45 Blackhawk. The hammer springs and spring guides appear to be the same lenght. The only differences seem to be that the lock models have detents for holding the lock. The lock doesn't extend to the top of the grip frames. The rosewood grips are flat on the back and fit across the frame. The rubber grips are raised in the center.

I swapped the .45 and single six grips and got perfect fits.

I see no reason hogues wouldn't work. If they didn't you wouldn't be out a lot.

Hmmmm ??? Now I'm getting a little confused (more then normal), I would like to hear from Downeaster as well. I can't see why you wouldn't be right Greener?
I called Hogue and they also told me their grips would not fit the New Model Blackhawk with the internal locking system.

ps........Nice looking heaters, Greener

Not sure if there are any differences. Ruger only has one Hogue monogrip on their site.

They do have lock and no-lock rosewood grips. I may order a set of the for lock models rosewood grips. The black rubber grips are ugly.

I might order a set myself, I think they would look good on a blued gun.

I have a new member in the family. She weighs in at 2lbs, 12oz. I shot both the 45LC and the 45acp loads thru the gun this morning, as she's as smooth as glass. The exchange between cylinders is really uneventful it is so simple. I had my S&W 686 worked on by a gunsmith who did a little throat work and cylinder work to make it shoot lead better. I think I'll get this gun done as well. Just a real nice shooter and easy on the recoil. I do want to get some new custom grips. One thing I did notice was there "wasn't" any serial # stamped on the grip frame to tell me what grip size it is??? Anybody have any info on this? I don't know where the scorpions came from, must have shipped with the gun?
thanks, haka

Looks good. Any grips that will fit a Blackhawk except Hogues will Fit. The Hogues attach from the base of the grips and will not do that with the lock.

Greener,
are you gonna order some grips from this fellow?

Just a thought, but seriously, I am considering it, they are beauties.

I'm tempted but $150-$200 is a tad more than I'd like to spend. I have a piece of black cherry that may be thick enough. Been hauling it around for 30 years. Might be worth trying to whittle it into some custom grips.

That spalted wood is really pretty but, will it make the gun shoot any better???? probably not but you will look good holding it.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

I'm not sure what I could do to make me shoot better, +1 on the spalted grips. I didn't know the term "spalted" until I read up on it. I think most would agree that there aren't many grips nicer looking. Again, that's a lot of money. Maybe some day.

I believe they will make the gun shoot better and oldman doesn't. We need an unbiased judge. H'man, you should get a pair and give us the report. 8)

I agree, we need another unbiased opinion. They may not make you shoot good but just look good shooting.
