Assault Hammers

Here is a link to a story about a 7-11 being robbed by a man with a
hammer.

I think all hammers should be registered with the FBI and be micro
encoded so when the hammer hits somebody, we can get the serial number
of the hammer and trace it back to the person who bought it.

Maybe it was an assault hammer! Ban all assault hammers.

Well Hak that is really bad news! I'm a very old U.S. Marine and we consider that we have a complete set of tools if we have an assortment of different size hammers. You can get most things encountered sorted out if you use the right hammer

As a very old service tech, you must always have a good selection of hammers as they can work wonders. Never over swing and strain yourself as it will have an effect on your accuracy, just get a bigger hammer. If that does not work then you have to get a bigger hammer swinger.

I think we used to refer to that as yhe hot wrench.

Guess I don't have any then. All my regular hammers are just plain steel with a wood or fiberglass handle and ll of my dead blow hammers are either red or orange.

Well, any true hammer aficionado knows the only REAL hammer is an 22 oz Estwing checker-head framer with the stacked leather washer handle on it. Anything else is just a tackhammer suitable for ladies purses and pinning up pictures of Yanni or Barry Girl-i-low on yer bedroom wall!

A tip for manly men who carry an Estwing 22 concealed: IWB holsters are not the way to go. Them claws diggin' into yer lovehandles gets old real quick. I prefer a crossdraw shoulder rig.

You may be right about the 22 oz hammer DE. I am in the oldman school believing that two hammers are better than one. My pair is a 16 oz Plumb and a custom 2.5lb minisledge carried in a two-holster belt. The minisledge has been a real workhorse in serious situations and the Plumb has been a real tackdriver when I've needed it. Fortunately in Virginia, open carry is accepted almost anywhere so I have not considered a CCH.

Mine are all pre-ban and there for legal except in no hammer zones.

I had an older Craftsman steel shank with rubber grip hammer ad it worked great, also had a fiberglass handled Plumb of about the same weight. Years ago when I was building a new deck and doing things the old fashioned way by driving nails manually and not by air. About half through the day my arm was bothering me and I started using the Plumb and the problems went away. Evidently after continued use the vibrations transmitted by the steel handle were transmitted to my arm, while the fiberglass handle damped them out. I really liked that Craftsman hammerer and it still hangs at my bench

greener, just when I had you firmly in the Good Guy category you go and start a run on pre ban hammers! Hoarding, led by our own bearandoldman will make hammers to expensive,and in short supply. There will also be an effort to embed serial numbers on nails to prevent mis use.
