What Kind of Scope for 50 Yards?

Post by Dwight45 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 12:54 pm

Well guys, after finally getting the hang of disassembly-reassembly, I've been able to concentrate on the fun parts of our sport, the reasons we shoot. And I love it all.

I enjoy the experiments, comparing ammo, trying different gun cleaning tools and solutions, the whole bit. And I've bought an Ultimate Clip Loader--so handy.

I enjoy shooting with both hands as I'm standing and from a benchrest. One-handed shooting is hard on my bad right shoulder, so I don't think I'd make a good bullseye competitor. But I enjoy just challenging myself.

I've been a barber 43 years, holding up my arms all day and holding my hands steady. I find that I can apply all that practice to shooting, as I'm usually the best shot when at the range.

I think I'll continue shooting from both a standing position, perhaps out to 20 or 25 yards, and doing surgical shooting from a benchrest while sitting, from about 50 yards. Anyhow, I have a question. What would kind of scope would you use for shooting from a benchrest from 50 yards, a red dot scope with no magnification or a magnifying scope?

You may want to try something like this,I use it for benchrest at 25 yards.

Hoowee BOM. Did you mount that scope to the pistol, or the pistol to the scope? How much magnification does it give you?

I swap back and forth with the scopes on my 10/22's. that one in the picture is a Tasco 6-24x42AO, I usually use Tasco 2.5-10x42AO. Have shot some great groups in the past with it. As shown in the picture it is reall a toss up as to whether it is a scoped pistol or a pistoled scope, eh?

Well judging from the silence, perhaps my question was a bit offbeat for this site. I went ahead and bought a BSA Edge 2-7X32mm scope, and a neat little Shooter's Ridge pistol rest, all from Midway.

I don't do much rest shooting so I prefer irons or a red-dot.

That should work well for you Dwight, KIIIII ike the 10X because it lets really old eyes see the bullet holes appear in the target as I shoot,
Enjoy.

Nope, their's was too big to get in the truck, otherwise I may have tried it.
