Fox news was breathlessly reporting the capture of NY escapee No. 2 yesterday afternoon. When they heard that the guy had been shot twice in the back and survived, the anchorette and one of their experts decided that the trooper who was a firearms instructor knew just where in the back to shoot and wound and precisely fired two into those places. This went on for a bit with them getting more positive about the story they were making up.

You are chasing an escaped convicted cop killer thought to be armed and precisely put two nonlethal shots into his torso?

I think I'd add "especially on tv news" to "believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see."

The report didn't mention how many total shots were fired to achieve those two torso hits. I'll bet good money it was more than two.

The news I heard was that the escapee was in critical condition and may not make it. Not exactly precision shooting.

I'm fresh out of sympathy for a convicted cop killer. He already had a life sentence without the possibility of parole, which was one of the reasons why I suspect he decided to escape in the first place. I'm just glad that no other officers were injured in the prolonged recapture of this individual.

I'm sure that the officer was trying to stop him, and did so. That's the main thing, though of course it would have been better for all concerned if the crook had been DRT.

It is not for us to criticize the officer from our computer chairs though. He was there and I'm sure that he did the best that he could.

Not criticizing the trooper. He recognized the escapee, gave chase and stopped him. I think the trooper did a good job and should get a big attaboy in his file My criticism was the news talkers inventing the story about the trooper being such a knowledgeable, precision shooter that he shot to wound, during a chase, with a handgun. The stories yesterday make me think that trooper was a pretty good shot just to hit the escapee.

The news reporters are doing good to figure which end of a gun does what.
