Made my obligatory Saturday morning range trip this morning. There was a training class of about 10 people on the 15 yard pistol range being given by a guy who is pretty good at training. One of the Saturday morning regulars said he was leaving because of the class and another left as I got there and said "Watch yourself, pretty scary down there." The instructor had set himself up on the edge of one of the tables so that he was perpendicular to the line of fire. He was preparing the pistol for each shooter. He always kept the pistol in front of him, which sometimes resulted in the muzzle being pointed along the firing line.
When I saw it, I wandered down and asked to see him alone and explained what I saw. He got the big eyes and thanked me for the comments. At the end of his session he thanked me in front of the group and had a firearms safety lesson with himself as the example.
Guess doing it politely works pretty well with most folks.

I never compromise when it comes to safety. Especially in this sport. I am not so lucky as you when it comes to the correcteds attitude.
A few weeks ago there was a person loading their weapon while myself and another guy were still down range. I went over to him and politely told him not to touch any firearms while the range is still cold and especially NEVER touch firearms while people are down range. He ended up arguing with me and every person on the range about what the definition of a "hot range" is. Then later at the end of the conversation he said he wasn't even touching his weapon while we were downrange... Everybody that was on the range and the staff of the range had a little talk with him...
By the way, congrats on your soon to be 1k posts!
