Straw Purchases

Post by greener » Sat Nov 14, 2009 7:45 pm

An acquaintance supports an annual disabled vet (spinal cord injury) shoot by working gun shows with a raffle of a handgun. He also sells NRA memberships at the Showmasters gun shows. His table is at the entrance to the show. I helped him today. The entertainment was worth the price of admission.

Two gentlemen stopped and asked us about buying guns. Seems one had forgotten his residency papers and they wanted to know who the other could buy him a handgun. We explained straw purchases were frowned on and anything that looked like a straw purchase would be recognized. A bit later, the two were escorted out of the building by a State Trooper with a discussion about meeting him at the Parham Road Office.

A while later a couple of young men were escorted out by another State Trooper. This time one was given the direction to the Parham Road office and the other, not smiling, was offered transport courtesy of the commonwealth.

I sold out of gunshow loopholes early and have a larger batch in process tonight.

No doubt some of you have heard about Houston member of Congress Sheila Jackson Lee( once attempted to hold up the departure of a DC to Houston SW flight because she was running late) who sent an under cover team to a Houston Gun Show to attempt to make illegal firearm purchases. To her teams surprise the dealers quickly informed the HPD

In Michigan there is only one legal straw purchase to be made. As the law allows purchase of a hand gun or long gun by a person over 18 but Federal law does not permit hand gun purchase until 21. you can legally make a purchase of a handgun for your child between 18 and 21, although it could technically be perceived a straw purchase.

Kaz, I'm sure you feel doubly blessed to be represented by such a fine person as Ms. Jackson.

The dealers in VA have been blessed by Michael Bloomberg who paid quite a few folks to make straw purchases in VA. They are quite good at noticing those folks. There are a couple of Richmond area dealers who approach physical violence at the mention of Bloomberg's name.

Best laugh I had yesterday was the young lady who was running the 9/12 project booth. She said she was relieved because she had just bought some real bullets (from Georgia Arms) and they were better than those roll your own bullets other folks seemed to want to use.

Good to see the boys in blue are keeping on top of the folks who attempt to sidestep the law. There is no gun show loophole, just a bunch of folks who try to make an issue out of a non-issue.
