Me too! Little did I know, one night I went to bed a veteran patriot that I'd wake up the next day labeled as a right-wing radical extremist.

I can check off several of the points in that document cause I qualify as a suspicious person of interest in several categories.

I better keep my eye out for when the extremist recruiters come a calling. I wonder, do they come in pairs, ring the bell, and hand out radical pamphlets, like a certain religious group tends to do?

When I first read this, I thought it was a joke. It was just too rediculous to believe it was real. This morning I saw it all over the news.

I am a displaced worker due to NAFTA and am now back in college. The college website suddenly has a student survey online about students feelings regarding guns and concealed carry on campus. It made me wonder if I answered truthfully would I be targerted as a right wing extremist and put on surveilance. I answered anyway.

They also only travel by bicycle wearing full tactical gear.

Hmm, former military; might be a supporter of the second amendment; might be a member of the NRA; might be involved in internet chatter regarding firearms; might have a stockpile of firearms; might have a cache of ammunition...

The recruiters may come singly. One of SWMBO's genealogy friends asked me if I would consider commanding the Michigan Militia. Not sure if he had any authority for the request, but I very politely turned him down without laughing.

I thought most of the memo was silly and childish, but the swipe at former service members really frosted me. Even the government bureaucrats ought to have more respect for folks who served, volunteering by that service to go into harm's way. Even today's part timers are volunteering for that. I've known and served with too many American Patriots not to be incensed by that one. A number of them are not here. The "Absent Comrads" toast always had a special meaning. If that makes me a right wing extremist, I'm in damned fine company.

Greener, should you ever decide to head the Michigan Militia, Bear and I would be glad to be your aide and head dog, we will provide our own firearms all you have to provide is ammo and dog cookies.

I think all veterans who've read it are frosted over that DHS report. Sometimes I have to remember that the same people who were spitting on me as I walked through airports dressed in my uniform, now occupy high places in our government. I only thought that as they aged, they would have matured and stopped spitting on me but apparently old habits die hard.

I go to bed knowingly satisfied that during all my years service, I held the line against all the bad people who'd do us harm. I'm very deeply grateful to those who've done the same before and after me. And for those who've made the ultimate sacrifice for the security of our nation, I have only ultimate respect. God bless them and their families.

On my flight back from Seattle last week the flight attendant asked for and got a round of applause for the soldiers on the flight. Too bad some folks in DHS don't feel the same way.

I have witnessed similar acts by the public. As I walked through several airports I saw plenty of people walking up and shaking the hands of military folks - well deserved in my opinion.
