VQ extractor in an MKIII

Looking at the stickie for the MKIII detail strip and things are going along fine, EXCEPT:

For the life of me I can't seem to get anything between the extractor and the extractor spring plunger in order to push the spring back and remove the factory extractor.

Any tricks to this or am I just dim? Or both.

What tool are you trying to get in there?
I have has success with both a 90-degree scribe and a flat jeweler's screwdriver on two separate extractor upgrades. Cursing at it seemed to help, although my issues were with getting the plunger back after putting something between it and the claw, which a second pair of hands, or a padded vise can help with.

As far as a trick to it, I found it helpful to wiggle the claw as I pushed the tool into the gap, and then hold it steady as I retracted the plunger.

Tried the jewelers screwdriver, even tried tapping it in with a light mallet. Just won't seem to budge. I'll keep trying and see if I can come up with the right curses!

Thanks for the reply.

AWRIIIIGHT!

Success. Thanks to bigfatdave --

-- Took his suggestion and cursed that spring like a rented mule. Sucker slid right back and I got the old extractor out and the new one in without a hitch!

Onward!

It can be tricky to get the tool in between the back of the hook and the plunger. I see that you have it now. Hopefully the rest of your extractor change went well.
