VQ MK111 Trigger.

Post by boomer47 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:48 pm

I'm starting a new thread on this so it does not get lost in my old one about the Acu'rizer/Trigger.
I received an e-mail from Nic at VQ today and he says that a silver colored MK111 trigger may become available(the new style, with the pre and overtravel adj.) and may be available now on special order. I'm trying to order two of them and will post back with the results.
He also said that the new black triggers are hard anodized, then powder coated. All I can say is that it is a really hard finish and should hold up a lot better than a plain anodized aluminum trigger. I could hardly scratch one on purpose.
I finally got one stripped down and polished to look like stainless but it will never look as good as one of Nic's that was silver colored/ powder coated to begin with.
I hope Nic comes through as I have always thought that the black trigger on a stainless pistol looked like someone forgot to put the right part in.
The black or silver trigger, along with his sear, are the first two parts I'd advise anyone to use to make a big improvement on a Ruger MK.(still not sure about the new trigger in a MK11, I seem to be the only one that had trouble fitting it in a MK11.)

Great information Boomer. I have not gotten a lot of folks wanting to change their Mark III's trigger lately, so I have not had much of an opportunity to use the new VQ triggers. I figured that a new coating was likely a powder coat but I wasn't sure. I'm glad you called Nick and inquired. A lot of companies are using powder coating for finished, it's environmentally friendly and makes a very hard practically bullet-proof finish. Making a silver finish look right will probably take some doing, but there's definitely a market for them, if they look right.

Well, I've tried to order the trigger from VQ but can't get past the answering machine. I've left at least 5 requests for a call back so I could order but am still waiting.
So. I e-mailed Alan at Rimfire Sports with the info yesterday and got a reply today.
Alan says he will contact VQ, get some of the silver triggers and let me know when they will be available.
This thread will probably be way down the list when that happens so I'll start a new one when I find out when the trigger is available.

Boomer,

Just a thought but there might be a reason why there's no answer at VQ. The Rimfire Sporter Matches are scheduled for this weekend at Camp Perry. It it possible that the Volquartsen's left town and went to the matches. The smallbore competition is just finishing up but the sporter competitions are where VQ might have a commercial interest.

Bullseye,
I got a call back from VQ this morn. and ordered one of the triggers.
I'll post back when it arrives and let you know how it looks. Nic said they were just busy, were not going to the matches.

Good for you, too bad for them. They'd probably make some serious cash out on competitors row. Lots of folks there out shooting, enjoying themselves, and looking for shooting accessories to buy.

VQ MKIII Trigger in MKII

Post by Rich G » Sun Jul 23, 2006 7:25 am

Boomer,

I apologize for using your thread to ask this question, but I thought it would be OK based on your last comment. I installed the VQ MKIII trigger in both my MKIII Hunter and KMKIII512. That trigger IMHO is fantastic (I replaced a Marvel in the Hunter). Now I want to install the VQ MKIII trigger in my KMKII678GC, and thought it was a drop in. I was going to post a new thread and ask Bullseye his opinion when I read your last comment. I take it that the new VQ MKIII trigger needs to be machined or fitted for installation in a MKII??? Comments / Advice is much appreciated and thank you in advance (Boomer / Bullseye??)

Rich G,

I assume you are talking about the latest VQ trigger with both pre and overtravel adj. screws.
Yes, the trigger fits a MK111 but I had to grind a good bit off the flat area on the back of the trigger to make it work in my MK11678GC.
The flat area is a little too long and strikes the frame before the sear release.
As Bullseye says, the frame cutout for the trigger well is not quite as large on the MK11.
Someone on one of these forums said that Nic at VQ said the trigger would work in a MK11 without modifying but that's not what I found.
I've found that the best way to get an answer from VQ is, go to the VQ site and you'll see Nic's e-mail address under"contact us",then check with him. They may have modified the trigger by now.
I ordered two from Rimfire Sports a couple of weeks ago and they are the same as the first ones I bought.
I ordered one in silver color from Nic last Thurs. and should have it in a few days. I'll get back with the specs on that one then.

Trigger slots on Mark II pistols vary in size but most are smaller than the Mark III's. The Mark III has an extended trigger tab to help seat an unlocked magazine. The extra length of the trigger body on the rear of the new VQ Mark III trigger must be removed to fit into most Mark II frames. This picture represents what material must be removed and from where.

Image

I have intentionally left the measurements off of the section shown for removal because the length is determined by the slot length of the Mark II pistol the trigger is going into. Another method for determining the cut length and depth would be lay the original trigger on top of the new one and scribe the section to be cut off of the old triggers outline.

Special thanks to Boomer for originally bringing this difference in trigger dimensions to the attention of us all.

Hope this helps.

Bullseye,

What would we do without your graphics?
That is exactly what the new VQ trigger needs to fit a MK11 and says it so much better than I can.
That is exactly what I had to do to make mine fit and work. I ground mine down starting with a bench grinder, then a belt sander, and finished with a Dremel tool.

Nic at VQ just sent me an e-mail saying the new VQ trigger will shortly be available to fit the MK11 in black or silver/stainless. Good news all around.

He said that he had a production run going now that had the back side of the trigger trimmed down to fit the MK11 which,of course, will also fit the MK111.

Alan at Rimfire Sports was also talking to Nic so I expect the new trigger to be available there soon also.

Nic said my new silver colored trigger is in the mail. I'll post back with comments on it when it arrives but I'll bet it will be first class like the rest of VQ's parts.

No doubt in my mind that if you hadn't contacted Nic at VQ that the trigger wouldn't have been redesigned to fit both models. There was no reason for the back side of the target trigger to be so long, since it does not have the curved tab like the OEM Mark III style triggers do. This is just a good business decision for VQ. Now their one product can support a wider customer base.

Look forward to hearing your report on the new trigger when it arrives.

The silver trigger arrived today. Looks good, like brushed stainless.
Already installed in a Hunter and works as advertised.

Bout the best I can do. Cameras are still kinda hard for me to master.
The spare trigger is one of the original VC3TT's that I stripped and polished. The discoloration at the top of it is where I left it alone so as not to narrow it down and get some sideways slop. I stripped and polished the MK11 scope mount to match the stainless pistol and am awaiting a Millet Red Dot to mount in the MK11 rings
I think the VQ silver trigger will sell when Nic gets them out.

I forgot to mention that I said earlier that VQ would put out a trigger that looks better than my attempt to polish one out.
I was right.
