S&W 910

A friend has one of these S&W pistols- a 9mm Mdl 910.
The trigger is rather heavy -a tad under 7 lbs, I'd say.
Can a do-it-yourself job be done on the trigger, or does it really need a qualified 'smith? Approximately how much would a trigger job cost?

When you say it is around 7# is that in single action mode or double?
Typically these need the sear and hammer cut on a jig to lighten. This is typically a smith only job. Usual cost runs between $50 and $100, depending on the smith.

Single-action: cocked first manually, with trigger retracting rearward. In fact, there seems to be significant overtravel after reelase of the sear, although I'm not really qualified to say this, as I know less than nothing about civilian guns.

Yup- don't know nuthin' about the innards of dem puppies- I just like to shoot 'em. But I find the triggers of compact double-action pistols too uncomfortably near requiring me to really bend my trigger finger wa-aay back!... Guess it's just a matter of getting used to it, since I usually shoot 1911's and similar-sized guns.

Me too, just used to those 1911 single action triggers and the ones on my 22/45 Rugers. My Rugers at 2 pounds are strictly range guns and too small to be a carry gun. Normal carry is my SA Micro Compact with a 4-1/2 pound trigger, do not want much less for a carry gun as the adrenalin rush will make it feel like a one pound trigger. Them compact revolvers are not a target gun and for their purpose I guess the trigger is fine. Gute Tag Jaeger
