Just getting back into shooting and got a Ruger .22.
Same old rear sight... not bad; but could be better.
Now the problem...
My first choices of replacement would have been a BoMar or Millett., neither which is made any longer.
Who makes a suitable replacement sight system?

Look at the Volquartzen sight. Also, Fusion firearms has a BoMar style sight for a Ruger.

With aging eyes I no longer see the iron sights clearly and shot with a red dot sight.

Yeah, but not being able to see the front sight makes a handy excuse for my being a lousy shot.

Sure does, been using that same excuse for years.

The Volquartzen TL sight is a great replacement.

Where do you think I got the idea for that excuse?
I have a red dot (Bushnell Trophy) on my MKIII22/45 and 22A. I'm a lot more consistent with shot placement with the red dots. I used a holo sight like the one on David's avatar. It was great. Unfortunately, it was an NCStar and just couldn't take the pounding from a .22 semiauto.
I have HiViz sights on the Hunter. Much easier to see the front sights. Some days I do very well with them.

Well, I'll be, you paid wore attention than I thought. and you remembered also.
Tried HiViz, got them on a lot of guns, but under the roof at my range they really don't help much, because of the shade. Pistol irons really give me problems but I can do pretty good with open irons or a peep on a rifle. Got a coup;e of red dots and they are not bad, but I prefer the holo sight or better yet a real scope on all gun, it works for me, Got a holo mounted on a 45 adapter way out on the front of the rail on my 15-22 so it would clear the scope bell, and it is deadly accurate out to 25 yards. Rested at 25 yards I can shoo one raggedy hole 10 shot groups.

Just do like Hakaman (IIRC?) claims. Point in the right general direction and blast away. You're bound to hit somewhere on the target at least once......

You are right to point, actually I can point and shoot without using the sights and do better than I can wioth them. Short or long barrel, both work fine. Guess my old shotgunning days left me with thsat skill.
