what loads do you guys like for 45acp 200gr lswc? jsut for paper punchin'

I'm giving 5.0 gr of unique a try, i've moslty shot 230gr lrn in my 1911 on top of universal clays with fairly good success.. I'm trying to branch out to new powders and loads for stuff, and am wondering what others like.

Both of those powders are good, I use Green Dot because I had a lot from my old sporting clays shotgun loads. Those powders are all pretty close to the same burn rate. You have to use enough to make the gun run. I belive I used about 5.8 of Green dot with a 200LSWC and the Micro runs great on them. The Micro does not lie soft loads and it will not run them, just stubborn I guess. Ran into problems year ago before I strted re loading using Wolf ammo because it was cheap, their loads are a little on the soft side and now and then one would not make the slide run far enough to eject, CCI Blazer did because they were fairly hot.

I like using Alliant Bullseye pistol powder at 4.2 grains for 200gr. LSWC with a light taper crimp. I've gone as low as 3.8gr. with it, but 4.2gr. of Bullseye is the ideal diet for my wadcutter guns.

I use a 200 grain LSWC and 4.0 grains of Bullseye. I have lightened the recoil spring to 14 lbs.

looking at all the different loads and different powders of varying burn rates, I would dare say all of those loads are mostlekely within a 50 fps rnge.
Use what works for you and what you happen to have on hand.

Lately, I've liked 5.7 gr of Universal with 200 gr lswc's. Seem to work well in the PT1911, P90 and Blackhawk. 5.3 gr of W231 and 4.3 gr Bullseye are pretty good loads.

Interesting spread

Lee's Modern reloading shows 4.0 gr Bullseye at 790 fps
4.3 gr Green Dot 805 (the load they show for 200gr jacketed is 5.8 gr, 897 fps)

Smith's reloading http://www.reloadammo.com/ for 200gr lswc shows
Bullseye 4.2 gr 790 fps
Unique 5.1 gr 810 fps
Universal 5.4 gr 804 fps
and W231 5.5gr 910 fps

You certainly have room to play around with the loads

I've been using a starting load of 3.2gr Clays with a 200 lswc (cream puff load). Tried it and liked it enough to not work up slowly. With the .38 158 lswc, I reduce the charge to 3.1gr. Pretty economical, consistent powder measuring and so easy to shoot.

Oldman likes Green Dot, mostly because he had 3 pounds or better left over from his sporting clays shotgunning days. If you look art a powder furn rate chart you will see a lot of different powders in the same range as Green Dot, like 700X 231 Int and Univ Clays, Unique. Bullseye is a great pistol powder nd always has bee, it is near the top of the burn rate chart and is great in short barrel guns. 296, H110 and 2400 are also used in.38/.357 but would probably be better in the long barrels as it's burn rate is a lot slower.

296,h110, and 2400 are great in heavy bullets and long barrels I would add Bluedot to that list too....

Little Greener, all of those should work great in a .38 lever gun. But, I will stick to mmy Green Dot load, because it is very accurate ans I got the powder.

I took 5.0gr of unique w/a 200gr lswc to the range today and it shot fairly well...about the same as 5.0 gr of Universal clays w/ 230 gr lrn....I think I'm going to pick up a pound of bullseye and maybe something else and try that next...... auto comp maybe
