Anyone have any experience with Springfield 1911s? I'm looking at their GI model, build like a WWII GI version, small sights, forged steel, no frills. Are they reliable? TJ

I have 3 different models of SA 1911's and they all work fine.

Buy one, it's easy. Just plunk your money on the counter and walk out the door with it.

Funny. If I had that kind of money, I'd probably live up in the Saginaw area with all the rich folks.

I don't have a springfield GI but I do have Springfield mil-spec...very nice gun, a bit looser than a kimber or my dad's taurus but it'll put 'em all in on big ol' hole at 15 yards. great "starter" 1911 especially if you want to customise it the way you want it rather than how the gun maker says you want it.

The mil spec is a good-shooting pistol. You'll like it.

The Milspec is a good quality platform,l especially if you should decide later to have it accurized for competition shooting.

Mine will shoot a mag through a big ragged hole at 7 yds..... I like to tinker with it, I'v chanded the grips, trigger, and thumbsafety so far and am thinking about either sights or some trigger pull work next.... (been eyeing one of those C&S sets from midway, but haven't been that energetic about it yet...)

I shoot a loaded version in IDPA, as well as carry it ..........Very dependable...........trust my life wuth it any day..........shoots good mine has ran anything Ive feed it..........My only advice is save some extra coin and go with the loaded as its got all the goody's all ready done to it and it's stainless so it wont show holester ware.........just my 2 cents of course ....I did look at a GI version in a 3 inch last wkend but I dont like the little sights and it was blued ....not that blued is bad but I just prefer the SS.........Keith

I like it just the way it came. I really like the old classic and never was one for beaver tails or skeletalized triggers or hammers. I've missed my old '42 Colt since I sold it a couple years back. Felt naked without a trusty 1911 .45 handy. Now, I feel armed

. I did put some checkered walnut grips on 'er to save those fancy cocobolo ones it came with. Very pleased with the pistol. Thanks all of you for helping me make a good decision
