I just got back from the range, and shot my S&W 686 6". I haven't shot any magnum loads thru it yet, until today. I shot 30 rds of mag, and 20 rds of 38sp. The magnum loads really kick some rear end. For just plain target shooting, I prefer the sp. What a nice gun, really a good shooter.
This brings me to the reason I posted: I rented a SA XDM 40 cal, 4.25" hg. If I were to buy this model, I would get it in the 9mm. The "M" stands for match grade, and that's what the barrel is. The 40 cal has a lot of kick to it, but I noticed that the hg is front end heavy, which subdues the recoil some. Basically, I am looking for another 9mm target shooter to compliment my Beretta M9. I have heard good things about the XDMs. I found it quite accurate, but what does a hack shooter like me know? I want something that fits my hand well, and has a "target" style trigger. (a trigger that doesn't have excess pretravel, or post travel) trigger terms?
thanks , haka

I think if it fits your hand and shoots well, then it is probably the one for you. I've fired several of the springfields and they do pretty well. My son just got a .40 and likes it.

I guess if you get the "match" it's better than the standard. From the little I've fired these, except for the Beretta, their all pretty much the same. I have an M&P9 that does well. I'm just not a big fan of 9mm.

trigger terms?
get specifics...
"M"atch-grade likely is specs for the chamber (not just the bore).
thus you'll be needing "M"atch-grade brass and "M"atch-grade dies
and "M"atch-grade bullets in order to have everything "M"atch !!

My Glock and I are "M"atched.
well... not precisely... I'm the weak-link...

"Triggernometry"
The angle of the trigger when cocked needs to be a compliment
of the oblique setting when the reflex-obtuse retaining screw is
supplemental to the equilateral congruence optimal position
.

I'm the strong link, with just one finger pressed onto a moving trigger, I can make the muzzle go most anywhere.

Me and my Beretta might not be the perfet match, although I like the gun and it's history. It is also well made and easy to field strip, and I feel it's a nice looking gun as well. I also think there are better tiggers out there than the Beretta, at least for me. I have shot other guns and have been more successful then with the Beretta. I'll just continue to look for my second nine.

I had forgotten about that one. Very popular with the IDPA types around here. Nice shooter.

I don't want to be accused of omitting anything...

I've only fired a Hi-Pt once... and I think if I just
just fired the pistol and ignored the price...
I'd do just fine...

It's a nice looking hg, but the trigger looks very similar to the Beretta M9. The Beretta seems to have alot of pretravel, creep, and overtravel. I am looking for a crisp trigger pull, without too much travel.

Never shot a CZ but I did ride one once back in the mid 70's, think it was a 250. :D

No, more like these with the shocks on each side of the swing arm, the one you showed was probably early 80's. Yamaha came out with the single shock under the seat in the very late 70's and all manufacturers changed their bikes too. The monoshock concept increased and improved the handling, along with longer travel front shocks the bikes rode and handled much better art high speed in rough terrain. The last 2 dirt bikes my oldest son and I rode were a 1971 Penton and a much altered by me Yamaha 1971 125 MX.

It's amazing what the subject of "Desert Warrior" brings out. I think I like it.
