Looking good, H'man. I think I like the Hi-Viz sight. May have to look into that replacement for my PT1911.
If you decide on them, they have to be fitted, somewhat, to fit in the dovetail (at least for the PT1911). I wrecked the first sight by not sanding any of the bottom plate of the sight first. HiViz graciously sent me a 2nd sight free. This time I sanded a "little" bit of the bottom of the sight to get it to fit in. It was too tight initially, but I finally got it to go in. Live and learn.

Dovetails especially are a very close foit, like in the one ten thousandth area can make a difference. I have seen them tight and loose also. Tight just sand the back or file it down a little and loose I have had to dimple the back with a center punch and flatten the sharp coiners to keep it from just sliding right on through.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

I guess I would rather it be a little tight then loose. It's easier to take it off then put it on?

Not really Haka, just a little work with a hammer and a punch raises the surface and makes things fit just fine. Amazing what you can do with a hammer.

I shot the last 50 rounds of my 38sp ammo this weekend, and I know it is a highly desired caliber. I can't find anymore of it, so I guess I'll have to put my S&W 686 on the shelf for a while. If I had know that, I would have never have bought it in the first place. I do have some 357 mag ammo (20rds) for uninvited guests, though. I have been getting 45acp at the range yet (reloads). How is everybody else doing???

It was pretty dry around here a couple weeks ago. Been vacationing in a landfill for the last 10 days and will check the supply tomorrow.

Those were the days when you could get as much ammo as you wanted.

Must have done a good job. I'm vacationing in the landfill again this week.
Cleared off enough that I can actually see Mt. Rainier, this afternoon.

I'm not sure which list it I'm on. But the current one include all-expense air travel to Seattle and three 14-hour days trying to get a process working.

Airports are so much fun.

I wish

Post by Yleefox » Wed May 27, 2009 12:01 am

I wish I had read this thread back when it was fresh, I would have made a few timely remarks. Since I didn't, I will make some really out dated comments.

1. Hak, I've shot a bazillion lead rounds through my PT1911 and it's still going strong. And I like that Hi-Viz front sight.

2. I haven't had a single bit of trouble from my PT1911, but I would point out that people who have had problems, (with any gun) are the ones who complain and those who haven't don't complain of course.

3. Bear/Old man, I used to own one of the old CZs back in the mid 70s. It was a 400 and it was one bad ride for that time period. I also had a couple of those 125 Yammies, a 250 Suzuki RM, and a few years ago, a 300 KTM (real nice dirt bike).

Hope I have bored you guys with my reminisicing.

Thanks YLee, it has been very good to me as well. Although I haven't been shooting it much because of the ammo shortage. It is my favorite shooting gun though.
