Thanks for the info Bulleye. I imagine case head separation would be much worse on a rifle as they operate off such high pressures. When shooting rifles, the shooter's head is also relatively close to the receiver, so it seems like the risk for serious injury is higher with the rifle. I've heard of several pistol KaBooms, and none of them have resulted in serious injury; I am not sure about with rifles though.
